Im getting a trailer for Christmas.... what should I look for?

full deck and deck over are 2 totally different things. i have a full deck but my fenders are still higher than the deck. picture the deck over cut down a foot on either side and set down between the fenders

Do you have the link to the add for that deck-over? I'm liking it, prob has some serious weight to it thought.

BTW i would defiantly stick with the lightest trailer you can if you are towing with the GW

deck-overs are sweet, but your FSJ will hate you.

I've got the full deck version of foxwar71's trailer, got a SMOKIN deal on it ;), and I've only used it a couple times but they seem to be good quality, and I know Ross loves his. If you're planning to get a better tow rig down the line, I'd say sure, go for a nicer trailer. But if you'll be sticking to the FSJ, you should probably plan to get the lightest-weight trailer that will safely hold your Jeep.

By smoking deal, do you mean cheaper then is listed on the site? $1900 for a new duel axle duel brake all steel trailer does not seem that bad.

Should I spring for the $400 HD upgrade they offer? If Im buying a new trailer im gonna keep it probably forever....

Oh and I also wanted to ad that if anyone has any buddies who sell trailers let me know. I have no connections, so I have no problem supporting a friend of a friend of NAXJA :)

Depends. If it is just springs, no.
Mine was only $450 to step up from 7k to 10k GVWR. Which included; larger axles, heavier springs, larger brakes, larger wheels, more lug nuts, larger tires, and extra tongue re-enforcements. Well worth it.

$400 I would get the upgrade in a heart beat. My brother has a car trailer, gotta watch the dovetail backing into driveways. He got some heavy duty casters we need to weld on the back that it would roll on before the ass end would drag. It's also not really wide enough for some full size trucks. K-5 blazer we had to make ramps to help it go over the wheel wells. '86 J-20 fit, it was close though. Removeable fenders are great, if not drive over ones are good also. I would get a full deck, much more versitale than just for moving cars unless you make a wood or aluminum insert for the middle. Having a flat piece of metal up front to bolt a winch to is also nice. We bolted on 2" step bumper reciever on his and have 9000xdi on a multimount setup with anderson connectors on the wires and the back of his truck, works great.

Remember when towing, it's easier to get moving that it is stopping with a tow rig like a GW or a 1/2 ton truck. Ever compare 1/2 ton brakes to 3/4 or 1 ton brakes? Huge size difference!

ok thanks for the input. So ill definitely go for the 10K GVW upgrade. No I just need to decide between the open deck and closed deck. Honestly, I have never needed a trailer before, so I think the open deck would be best for my Waggy.

Do you think the 10K upgrade will ad a significant amount of weight? So Is Econo trailers the best place to buy? Seems like my only option at the moment. There trailers look great, would just like something to compare them to.

I had the same thoughts when I got mine. I now have plans to convert mine to a full deck. Its much more useful for when I go to pick up axles/metal/etc....

wow thats awesome! Do all of you tow with big trucks? does any one else tow with another jeep?

Seeing as my trailer just fell into my lap, I haven't got a tow rig of my own at the moment, and the couple times I've been able to use it I've just hitched a ride with other truck owners :) Currently, my DD is an '01 protege and I have another year ish left to pay it off (less if I keep paying more like I've been doing) and then I'm most likely going to be shopping for a fullsize truck, at least 3/4 ton and hopefully diesel. It's just a lot easier on the truck if you can be towing with a 3/4 or 1 ton diesel as opposed to a 1/2 ton gasser.

uggggg I love those classic bodied fords! My sister has a V8 WJ, I should just tow with that.

My mom has a 2008 5.7 Toyota sequoia, but Id rather not be seen driving that piece of jap scrap (really, no offense meant).

My friend was telling me the only real damage that can be caused by towing is damaging the trans. My Grand wagoneer has a Torque Flight 727, pretty sure they use those in race cars:D So hopefully It will just be an issue of slow acceleration.

EDIT: Wonder if the cherokee would fit on the back of this :laugh3: :http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/cto/2085048147.html Thats like the same price as a new trailer!

Thats a fair deal right there! why not sell the grand waggy buy that and then grab a cheaper trailer for now?

It accelerates faster with a trailer and Jeep in tow, then my cherokee does.
