I'll go RED when this chapter adopts a trail!

I'm stirring things up, not difficult on this board. :D

You pony up $35 a year and tell me that you are a better person because you support a forum that feeds your hobby. I'll spare you my sarcasm, but that is like saying: "I support my local jiggly-room." Stimilating the economy and keeping people employed are good things, but not all that impressive when you are the end benefactor.

My opinion is that any special interest group that can do something outside of it's limited interest, is involved in the world around them. Everyone else is just a self-absorbed whiner.

So the gauntlet is down, stop patting yourselves on the back and pick it up. Do something that would make a total stranger say "That's pretty cool!"

Until then, I'll be wearing this sweater:

Ya stirring things up on here is real hard :gee:

but I like what your doing.
A "membership drive" should be a day doing some trail maintenance on whatever trail is chosen?

The groups I know of go twice in a season to maintain the Adopt-A-Road status.

Yeah whatever dude!! Everyone has excuses for why they cannot pony up $35 dollars! Yours is a good one but still NOT good enough! You spend plenty of time here for other reasons which SHOULD be good enough for $35 damn dollars!! It's a good thing there is no trial period with an expiration........... something I would do if I were running this...... :lecture:

I understand where Mike (Hypoid) is coming from and his view isn't an unusual one - several others have shared his position on Chapter involvement and contribution. Hell, a former member, Stumpalump let it absorb him and he went bat-shit crazy because of it.

I have to disagree though that withholding the $35 simply because of a perception of inactivity on the part of the chapter is a bit misplaced. That $35 does nothing for the Chapter directly - but it does help NAXJA keep the website open and accessible. The value received from just the tech and aftermarket support alone makes the $35 a huge bargain.

But, to address the Adopt-A-Trail topic: This is not a new idea............. Your current Chapter BOD looked into adopting a trail on several occasions.......... Several talked the talk, but lacked action. We got with Sean over at COHVCO about the Adopt-A-Trail program and we found that there aren't any trails close to Denver that need adopted. We, the BOD looked very seriously at adopting Iron Chest back in '06 but that would end up being a fairly significant committment (both time and distance) from a metro area based club to go out there for a day. Ultimately, there was very little interest from the Chapter folks.

Chapter meeting discussion 2006:

"I'd like to see our Chapter become involved in the Adopt-A-Trail program and some other charity activity. Jeff has brought up the Adopt-A-Trail idea before and I think we should run with it. The Chapter is open to other suggestions or ideas, so please post up with comments."

We did succeed in adopting China Wall for the day during the Seth Stanton benefit run 2007:

However, COHVCO maintains a list of adoptable trails - if any of you guys wants to take on the challenge of proposing a trail to adopt, get our Chapter involved, organize the run and clean up day - have at it!

Also, don't forget - Tom Houston (old_man) has organized this Chapter's involvement in the Christmas Caravan for Kids (Toys for Tots) many times.

So, for those of you nay-sayers that think our club doesn't get involved - phooey on ya. It happens - but not often enough for some folks apparently.

Ultimately, you all need to stop pointing the finger at the Chapter or it's BOD. It's all up to you guys to get involved and actually do something.

You guys wanna get together and discuss some of these topics? Get yer butts out to the Car Show on the 13th and wel'l put together a meeting!

Adopting a trail is good But as Troy says the trails needing help are a long ways off' part of our dues help in other ways to keep trails open, Maybe instead of adopting a specific trail just when we go on a run carry some extra trash bags and pick up the litter we find and make it a point to leave things better than we found them

Exactly, we can't even get half the members to show up to a meeting in town.

And just to stir the pot some more, your $35 helps NAXJA do things like this.

Also, recall that when Skully was looking to set up an event for kids with developmental disabilities there were plenty of people from this chapter volunteering to participate...

Are you a paying member of jiggly-room.com?

Just been thinking... Say the Colorado Chapter adopts a trail like Iron Chest, down in the Buena Vista area. Hypoid, you'll make the time to attend the clean up runs a couple times a year, yes? You'll be willing to drive the 6-7 hours round trip? You'd better be with a post like that. :D :moon:

Plus paying $35 a year isnt bad for the info you get on here. Plus you get discounts from vendors if you buy parts from them and you are a:NAXJA: member. Im sure you have used more than $35 bucks worth of info from here and if you have ever sold anything in the for-sale section this website helped you out with that. All in all its not about ponying up money for a club its showing your support for the awesome forum and its members who take the time to bring you top quality info and those that volunteer there time to maintain the websitese.

I have ponied up my membership dues twice. I have used way more than $35 worth of knowledge from this site. I don't post too often, and have not made any NAXJA events. I look at it as a great investment of my money into something I enjoy, which is off roading. The Jeep thing is newer to me, but my whole life has been spent involved in off road motorcycles. A couple memberships a year to help keep my favorite areas open is the least I can do.

Too bad never got it off the ground this year. Next year is the plan, hopefully. It is all about planning and I just could not get time to set it up. In fact I am looking for people to be a part of the program and help me set it all up. hint hint

Too many variables to adopt a trail for the members. If we were a tighter group say MHJC who has a lot of trails they maintain we could probably do it, but more of the BOD would have to be existent and become Drill Sergeants and major role models.

I say wrestle Spring Creek from the MHJC, I see no signs of trail cleanup when I went up there. The sign is still a rusty target laying on the soil rotting.......

I remember that sign... I'd have no problem contacting the club to see if they'd let someone else handle it. :D That's a fun trail too... we'd have an excuse to run it regularly then, hehe.

November is coming up quick... I'm very sure at least two of the current BOD aren't interested in running again, so there'll be some new leadership soon. That'd be the time to bring this up again, eh? :dunno:
