A while back I'd noticed that both the new, cut-to-code key from the dealership and the old worn one that I had would be hard to turn. Sometimes it would get stuck in the lock position and I'd have to jam it in hard to get it to turn forward. Not wanting to get stranded a couple days in a row after work I flushed the lock out with some contact cleaner and then sprayed a little silicone lube in it. That seemed to do the trick and I was almost ready to pronounce success until last night when I got home from work, I could not turn the key *to* the lock position, no matter what I tried.
After some web searching and messing about I decided to pull the battery cables and lock the doors and hope nobody saw the key and decided to mess with it (I don't live in a great neighborhood.) Well after pulling the battery cables I decided to try one last time and oddly it still would not come out but *would* if I put the shifter in N. I was able to repeat this a few times and then it started working normally again.
I drove a different car to work today so it's still sitting, but I'm wondering what I should be looking at. *is* there an interlock between the shifter and the lock cylinder, and what could need to be lubed or replaced?
thanks!
