CHECK TO SEE IF YOUR GAUGE IS BAD FIRST !

After spending about $275.00, radiator, waterpump, flush, senders, ect... ect..., I checked my gauge to see if it was bad.
Guess what ????

Got a new Full sweep eletric gauge from Summit on the way. $20.00 part # EQU-6042

Guess I should not have to worry about a radiator or waterpump for awhile now.

well...there that and PEACE OF MIND you won't have another cooling related problem.

Mechanics 101....start cheap, and work up to the expensive chit.

Red91,
Thats what I thought I was doing, just never thought about the gauge.

I probably would have gone the same route....don't feel bad. You'll save someone elses butt the next time.

I never had a overheating problem until I installed a guage.Never lost any water or anything :laugh3:
Then with the guage I saw how hot it was and was never the same again. :smsoap:

I'll agree with the above posts, money spent on replacing older XJ cooling parts is well spent, so don't feel like it was a total loss, just preventive maintenance.

I don't feel guilty then since I've purchased a 3 row rad, new cap, hoses, belt, Water Wetter, and some neglected cooling system flush to use on my Jeep then. Now I just need the time off when Dad is home to help out........

maybe a dumb question... but how do I check to see if the guage itself is bad?
Just replaced my radiator with a 3 row CSF, a Hayden Heavy-Duty Fan clutch, Hesco High Flow Thermo-Housing, Water Wetter (to be added), and Robert Shaw Thermostat, and Coolant Temp Sensor, (water pump was replaced about 10-15k ago).

Get yourself a meat thermometer, thats what i did, and place the probe on the back of the head/wherever and see what it reads OR just go to the local auto shop and see if they can take the temp of your motor with one of those lazer temp gauges. (i did that just to double check my readings)
