Ian's 1986

You still didn't have as good as a time what we did...

Atleast its not 2WD is it?

man it sucks having a near stock jeep.....

I drove mine as a stocker for a year. It was my 2nd XJ...first remained stock. There really isn't anything sucky about it! Heck, I'm even thinking of taking my lift off and going back to stock for a bit longer. It's always fun to take the XJ places where people don't think it should go.

What you really need to ask yourself Ian is what do you want the rig to do and what are you ready for it to do? Having a well built 4X4 and not having the experience to use it can be a painful combination....just ask Jennifer!

If you're just wanting it big to look cool, that's a different matter. You might try some coils from an Explorer (someone mentioned to me the other day that they may give you 6" of lift, dunno, haven't tried), build the rear springs, and slide some Ranger shackles on there. All of that should be cheap. Of course, you'll want to drop your TC, a new track bar and put new shocks on also. You might get away with the whole deal for around $300.

You can do a smaller lift and not pay nearly as much. Again, it depends on what you're going for. If ya wanna tell us exactly where you're wanting to take your XJ we might be able to scroung the parts for it. I'd be happy to come over and help you wrench on it, or you could bring it over to my place where I at least have a concrete surface to work on. It's an XJ man, anything is possible!

Theres a guy parting out an XJ just like mine. From the description, it sounds like its in good shape, just not sure why he is parting it.

I understand where your coming from, but just take your time with it.

I've driven mine for about 2 years with it being stock and just put my 2" boost on it a few months ago. No need to rush and go big from the beginning. Also build it the way you want to build it. Most of the people I talk to about lifting Jeeps tell me I should lift mine 9", put some stupid boggers on it, bumpers, and all the other cool stuff. Gets kind of annoying after while, but oh well. Obviously, if I had the money, experience, time, and tools, my Jeep would be a little bigger.

I don't need a BFJeep considering I drive it around all day and only go offroading once or twice a year. Anyways, I'm off to a picknpull. :D

dont get me wrong, im not hating on stock xjs. i am fine with mine, i just would like to have some recovery points. but i would like to end up with a nice 3-5" lifted xj that i can drive around comfortably, but wheels like a bat out of hell.

and as for rebuilding my jeep, it'll be too much trouble. im gunna try and find another cherokee, lifted is a preference :laugh3:

By Mr. Black's it has everything you want already done to it!

No, wait, I take that back, I want his...buy my car then sell my car and buy an XJ...LOL!

Stop playing with them Ian... You don't want to sell your snow plow!

LOL...last year when it snowed I was driving Paula. The front end sits low enough that I collected a lot of snow. I couldn't make it into the driveway (where my Jeep was parked all safe and sound) because all I did was push the snow into a big pile. So, there was the Porsche sitting, blocking my street, with this large pile of snow (well, large for Denton, TX anyway) in front of it. I had to get out and clear away the snow from in front of the car and on the drive before I could park it....and of course I didn't own anything that resembled a shovel at the time. LOL

Here's a pic from that day. Notice all the snow under the car (and packed into my cold air intakes) and the big pile in the street (again, a big pile for snow in Denton, TX).

"cold air intakes"...I guess they were doing their job well that day

When was that? I remember being at UNT with all the snow. I just wish I had the chance to have gone and done 4wd donuts.
