I went to the dark side...

i've lost track of who has their hands in who's pants since about 1988, lol.
just saying that I thought that the LR & RR was made by toyota... i have been corrected.

hmmm "all jeeps are the same"? let's see if my memory works here....
WILLY'S actualy started the "jeep" named product (yes, ford & several other companies made an extremely similar looking/working 4x4 for the military). then it actualy became "JEEP" as an actual company, AMC bought it in the 70's (isn't that when it moved to canada? i can't recall atm) . but dodge/chrysler bought it in the 80's.

my point is, there is not any other vehicle out there with a similar name/look as the jeep. unlike the LR & RR, even though they maybe made by different manufacturers (ford & toyota/gm). they look (to me) identical.

chrysler, ford or general motors... what a choice! lmao
Jeep.GC. LR2. Hummer.

just a thought.... ever look into the dodge durango? my brother has one & it's a great 4x4.

What does a $40k Hummer come with?

I never liked the way the Durango looked...this year it is ghettofabulous...

can't imagine that a $40k hummer would come with much of anything.

haven't seen the new durango yet, but the "older" ones (from the late 90's early 2000) looked ok, and have plenty of room inside for the groceries & kids. and it doesn't LOOK much longer (or wider) than the old full-sized K-5 / BRONCO or RAMCHARGER.

That's a serious change in vehicles.

And for the record, my XJ rode better than stock on 35s. Wasn't tippy or anything at a 5.5" lift.

D44s F/R, 4.88s, and a whole lot of other crap and I thought it drove great.

I can understand wanting some ammenities, but that's a steep price. My XJ came with remote start when I bought it and had power windows/locks/working AC, etc and was a '92. I loved DD'ing that thing.

The only problem I ever had with it was the ECU finally gave up and took 10 minutes to send juice to the fuel pump on cold mornings, but then ran great all day. That was also after a solid 2 years of beating on it every other weekend and DD'in it 500 miles a week.

Just curious why you were dead set on a ride height adjustment feature?

My MJ has a ride height adjustment feature, it cost me 20 bucks at home depot. 4x8x16 solid cement blocks are a buck each.

I don't, but I am going to be installing a snowplow frame "soon". We'll see how my springs like that.

There's an XJ that runs around here with a plow frame up front. They removed the front bumper and badly hacked up the core support to make it fit.

It hasn't folded like a taco, yet.

I'm going to be making brackets out of 1/4" plate that grab the front frame rails as far back as the steering box and anti sway bar mounts, with a couple runs of 1/4" thick 3" angle going across the front probably. From there I'll add the brackets for two plow mount pivots and the lift ram + arm. I refuse to do ghetto fab work.

Probably going to have to put 2 or 3 inch lift coils in the front to keep it from sagging really really badly, but we'll see.

$40k Hummer comes pretty well appointed. Adventure package H3 is $35k, Luxury package is $38k. And what with Hummer as a brand going under, any dealers would be willing to deal and give you better pricing.

Friend of mine put a plow on his 95, bought it at sams club for $500, only raised and lowered from inside, side to side you had to get out and do that by hand. Worked great, he learned on my driveway so it took a while to push all the gravel backup after he pushed it to the bottom LOL

I couldn't have lockers...might as well get a few extra inches...

In the end it seemed clear that I wasn't going to come out of this situation with an off road vehicle as good as a mildly lifted and built XJ could be unless I opted for the $60,000 Land Rover (which comes with lockers, ride height, a killer power plant, terrain programs, HDC and all of the on-road stability features that the Jeeps don't have [as many of]). On top of the lack of ability and "buildability" the GC didn't even fill the role of luxury vehicle to any real degree.

IF i ever got a hummer, it'd have to be the original H1. never liked the civilian version, (chevy) built ones. but that's just me.

as far as actualy finding an H1 at a dealer (new, not used & abused) it'd still be over priced, in my opinion.

but hey the OP got the LR2 and so far from i've read in here he likes it, so congrates on finding a newer rig that you like off the showroom floor!
maybe next year you'll have a winch on the front of it? lol

I don't want anyone to know where I am, I don't want to stand out, I don't want to be unique anymore; my DD's will be as far under the radar as I can manage from here on out.

The snow plow company used a front loader to dump a bucket worth of snow onto my new vehicle, hit 3 panels...the XJ I wouldn't have cared about...now I have to squeeze them for $2500....marvelous...

Make sure you catch the big holes farther back that were for the factory hooks/winch mounts

Crappy. Lots of pictures, and a suit in small claims will make that happen.

yep, that's the plan. Why did the factory put those stupid weld-in strengtheners halfway across those holes again?

for the crazy special upside down winch mount that they sold a grand total of ten.

Strangely enough, I was wondering about this a couple of days ago. Thumbing through the XJ Parts Catalogue, I noticed that winches were apparently a factory option for the XJ up through 2001 - but didn't see a mount for it.

Any ideas on a part number for it, or if there are photos of it floating around? I've got some bumper ideas I've been kicking around and wanted to see how the factory mount went in.

For reference: winch part and model numbers were 82204129 (9000H), 82204130 (6000H), 82204131 (8000H), 82204134 (8000HX).

ummer itself is dead, and the H1 went a few yrs ago. You can find a used one for $40k though...I personally like the H3s, not so much the H2. Neither is as cool as the H1.
