I went to the dark side...

heated steering wheels are like god's gift to mankind.

And seat heaters. Being able to keep the cabin heat relatively low (thus keeping the air from getting stuffy) while still warming your body is something I never want to not have again in a modern vehicle.

heated steering wheels are like god's gift to mankind. wish i had one, i'd take that over wearing gloves in the morning driving to work any day.

The tradeoff is that the wheel is excessively thick...like putting one of those 90's style steering wheel covers on, but you can't take it off...

You kidding me, AC'd seats, no way. I miss the production XJ, SE model, no bells or whistles, nice 5 speed, one computer, no electric windows or door locks. I don't want all the extra BS that has to be fixed.

No kidding, too bad they didn't let you order the Selec-Trac with the 4.0l/AW4 in those trucks, I'd prefer that over a fully optioned truck.

As I said, it is STILL called a Freelander in the UK.

Oh, I see where you are...sorry...it didn't sell as bad in other countries. The "Freelander" badge would have been the kiss of death for the LR2 over here.

Funnily enough, that's similar to why the 'Liberty' name wasn't used for the KJ outside of North America - 'Cherokee' was too established in multiple languages, but DCX wanted to emphasise that the KJ was a clean break from the XJ in the home market. Land-Rover was just going for the opposite effect here with 'LR2' vs. 'Freelander' (or 'LR3' vs. 'Discovery') ;)

well even though you traded (for DD anyway) out to a toyota (are they still made by toyota?) at least ya kept the XJ to be rebuilt! .... one day.

Toyota has never built Land-Rovers. Previous ownership was Ford, now Tata.

land cruiser , land rover same vehicle in MY opinion. (doesn't/didn't ford have a hand in toyota in the 90's/ early 2000? ) too difficult to keep track of which company owns/has a hand in which company. i just thought that they was made by the same auto maker. idk.

At least it will still leak oil like a jeep.

Better add Jeep into that description as well - they're all the same, right? ;)

You may be thinking of Mazda; Ford's been tied up with them since the '70s. GM's been more involved with Toyota historically.

Name me one other company where every production vehicle is meant to be driven off-road and who offers advanced off-road systems as standard equipment on 80% of the vehicles on their showroom floor (front and rear lockers, ride height adjustment, high angle grade descent settings, etc.)? Its not Jeep anymore...the Compass and Patriot are street vehicles, the base model Cherokee doesn't even come with part time 4x4 anymore.

I was either going to buy the Grand Cherokee or the Land Rover, and the Jeep sucked. Maybe I should have gone to Hummer....

Question:

Why do the English drink warm beer?

Answer:

Lucas makes English refrigeration.

I'm so used to being abused by my dealership all this positive attention from LR seems odd, nevertheless, my home dealership not only stayed late to complete the sale and not only followed up a few days later to make sure I had made it back to school alright but today I ran into a sales manager from a local dealership at a gas station. He just stopped to BS about LR and see if I liked it, he mentioned that he had had an LR2 as a dealer's car for a while and loved his, I asked for his card etc etc. It seems that LR is in some manner affiliated with Volvo, I neglected to question further...sorry...

Not exactly: it was more a side effect of Ford owning both Volvo and Land-Rover at the same time; certain platforms were shared between all three manufacturers. IIRC, your LR2 is on substantially the same platform as the Volvo S80; can't remember which Ford models also used it, but I want to say that the Mondeo (previously the Contour/Mystique in the US) was one of them.

There was also the expected drivetrain incest going on as well - my recollection is even fuzzier on that, but models on that platform used the same V6s from what I can remember.

The LR2 is an inline 6. Thats about all I know.

Good lord, what would I want an automatic for ? I've got all the parts for a 5 speed swap into a ZJ except a tranny, not sure whether AX or NV when I do it. Been looking for a $1000 tranny dead ZJ for a few weeks now.

i've lost track of who has their hands in who's pants since about 1988, lol.
just saying that I thought that the LR & RR was made by toyota... i have been corrected.

hmmm "all jeeps are the same"? let's see if my memory works here....
WILLY'S actualy started the "jeep" named product (yes, ford & several other companies made an extremely similar looking/working 4x4 for the military). then it actualy became "JEEP" as an actual company, AMC bought it in the 70's (isn't that when it moved to canada? i can't recall atm) . but dodge/chrysler bought it in the 80's.

my point is, there is not any other vehicle out there with a similar name/look as the jeep. unlike the LR & RR, even though they maybe made by different manufacturers (ford & toyota/gm). they look (to me) identical.

chrysler, ford or general motors... what a choice! lmao
Jeep.GC. LR2. Hummer.

just a thought.... ever look into the dodge durango? my brother has one & it's a great 4x4.
