I Saved The Life Of Another AW4 Today

Great, I just did a mini fluid change on my trans and I looked it up in our michell info deal at work-(my shop) yup you guessed it---+4 for the AW4. Dang it ! Now I gotta do a full flush!

Hey guys.. look at my new post about voltage and transmission slips..... do you think my tranny could have ATF+4 in it? Honestly, I'm not sure what I used... it was last year.. I always refer to my FSM... but I'm will to check out everything at this point...

What are the ill effects of using ATF+4??

Thanks,

Tom

Just replied over on that thread. I think your voltage problem is why your tranny is acting wierd.

They may have changed the formulation of the +4 so it's now acceptable in the Aisin trans. Recently Ford changed Mercon V to make it acceptable in trans that formerly spec'd Mercon, might be the same thing going on.

it may be accepted to use atf +4 in the aw4. but if you have always used dex III stick with it. even if a dealer (i manage one) say it is ok to use atf +4. all of the tsb's i've seen cover every chrysler trans. not the aw4.

I'd stick with the Dex III...though for the guys running GM Th350, 400 and 700's you can run the Ford Mercon V and it will help firm up your shifts and the friction modifiers help with keeping the clutch discs healthy. I have ran it for years in all the turbohydromatic trannies I build, most likely going on 20+ now and have never had an issue. Stay away from the Hurst and B&M fluids. They are nothing but highly overpriced snake oil and no better than the afore mentioned Mercon V fluid

Did you not read my earlier post on this page? TSB 21-014-07 does covers the AW4. Maybe you should actually read the TSB's Chrysler puts out before posting inaccurate info. here.
