Dear Concerned Student:

I am not allowed in schools.

Sincerely,

God

----------------------------------------------------------

How did this get started?...

-----------------

Let's see,
I think it started when Madeline Murray O'Hare complained
she didn't want any prayer in our schools.

And we said, OK.

------------------

Then, someone said you better not

read the Bible in school,
the Bible that says
"thou shalt not kill,
thou shalt not steal,
and love your neighbors as yourself,"

And we said, OK...

-----------------

Dr. Benjamin Spock said
we shouldn't spank our children
when they misbehaved
because their little personalities
would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem.

And we said,
an expert should know what he's talking about
so we won't spank them anymore..

------------------

Then someone said
teachers and principals better not
discipline our children when they misbehave.
And the school administrators said
no faculty member in this school
better touch a student when they misbehave
because we don't want any bad publicity,
and we surely don't want to be sued.

And we accepted their reasoning...

------------------

Then someone said,
let's let our daughters have abortions if they want,
and they won't even have to tell their parents.

And we said, that's a grand idea...
UNITED WAY SUPPORTS THIS IDEA!
------------------

Then some wise school board member said,
since boys will be boys
and they're going to do it anyway,
let's give our sons all the condoms they want,
so they can have all the fun they desire,
and we won't have to tell their parents they got them at school.

And we said, that's another great idea...

------------------

Then some of our top elected officials said
it doesn't matter what we do in private as long as we do our jobs.

And we said,
it doesn't matter what anybody, including the President,
does in private as long as we have jobs and the economy is good....

------------------

And someone else took that appreciation a step further
and published pictures of nude children
and then stepped further still by
making them available on the Internet.

And we said, everyone's entitled to free speech....

------------------

And the entertainment industry said,
let's make TV shows and movies that promote
profanity, violence and illicit sex...
And let's record music that encourages
rape, drugs, murder, suicide, and satanic themes...

And we said,
it's just entertainment
and it has no adverse effect
and nobody takes it seriously anyway,
so go right ahead.

------------------

Now we're asking ourselves
why our children have no conscience,
why they don't know right from wrong,
and why it doesn't bother them to
kill strangers, classmates or even themselves.

------------------

Undoubtedly,
if we thought about it long and hard enough,
we could figure it out.
I'm sure it has a great deal to do with...

"WE REAP WHAT WE SOW,"

------------------

Pass it on
if you think it has merit!
If not then just discard it...
But if you discard this thought process,
then don't you dare sit back and complain about
what bad shape this country is in!

Take your religious bullshit elsewhere...

prayer and religion in schools has nothing to do with teens snapping and going postal.

It's probably the cafeteria food.

Agreed...with most of it but I wont go into those parts not talking about religion and politics with freinds.
Sam

The same bastards that preach about instilling religion and morals into our children are the same fawks instilling themselves into our children.

Hypocrites.

Okay Ill bite...seperation of church and state thats why religion has been taken out of school. The fact that people get upset when you spank your kids, is BS I got spanked and i did not kill anyone (yet). When coropal punishment for kids when out the window thats when kids started to go postal. Im not saying that it did not happen before but the frequence of which it happens now is much worse.

I gotta agree Ron...

More parental responsibility...

Less religion.

That being said...

If you feel religion will make your kids better persons...

by all means enroll them in a religion based teaching institution or do it at home...

In public schools, kids need:

More time reading...

Less time praying.

So many mistakes there, so little time...

The often quoted clause "Separation of Church and State" does not mean you can not pray at School. It does say that the State may not endorse any specific religion.

The only "Praying" we did in school was the pledge of allegance. Because it has the words "Under God" in it, some athiests took that as endorsing a specific religion, though they would be incorrect in their interpretation as many religions pray to the same god. Take out that phrase and kids could once again pledge allegance each morning, just as in the old days.

I see where you and the original poster are going. No religion in school, no moral teaching.
Bad logic. You have assigned the role of moral guide to the wrong group of people !!

It is up to the PARENTS to school their children in their beliefs, not the public school system.
It is up to the PARENTS to teach their children Morals, not the public school system.

The public school system is busy enough with getting kids to learn the 3Rs, and though example, how to get along with their fellows.
The rest is expected to be taught at home.

People in this country are entitled by freedom of religion to believe in whatever crap they want to believe in...

and I support their right.

I do not support or believe in influencing/ministering/preaching any or one religion over any other in any public/state/federal school.

Their entitled to their beliefs as I am to mine.

Just because their beliefs are more common/popular doesn't make them right.

The people that founded this country came here avoiding religious persecution and is exactly why there shouldn't be any preferences/exemptions for any religions...

hence the separation of church and state.

"If your kid is allowed to pray... mine should be allowed to worship as well"

wanna open that can?

p.s. Happy Winter Solstice!!!

Religion cannot be forced upon students is what Iam saying. Being that the public school system is part of the state Seperation of church still appiles
you can pray in school the school cannot force you to pray.

I'm not religious, and I am a parent. So your assumption is wrong get your head out of your a$$ and read between the lines Im agreeing with you so back off.

This is why they say dont talk about religion and politics people are really touchey on those subjects.

I get so sick of this nonsense. The older I get, the more my perspective changes. I'm starting to sound like my parents. I can see how the extreme materialism of this country is bad. I can see how we seem to be moving farther away from common decency, but Jesus F'n Christ, what don't you understand about CHRISTIANITY being taught in PUBLIC schools?

When I grew up, we said the Pledge of Allegiance. I wasn't scared by it. I had no clue what it meant at 7. We then learned how to do math, how to spell words, and how rainbows are made. Then after school on Wednesday nights we went to pot luck, on Saturday night we went to Bible study, on Sunday morning we went to Sunday school and service. It is the public school systems job to teach me how to handle my affairs in public like how to hold a job. It was my parents job to teach me how to act right by using some sort of moral code and what happens after we die.

I think it would be an absolutely great idea to teach little Suzy Jesus in public schools, as long as you agree it is cool if we teach little Johnny Satan worship right next to her. Of course the Religious Studies class would be taught by Mohamed, and he would get to cut off anyone's hand if they stole a pencil.

How can you possibly teach Christianity in the same building where evolution is taught?

Religion belongs in churches and at home...

Not in school...

Well...

Unless you're a sheeple...

Then I guess you need a fictional overseer to guide you thru your daily moral and ethical dilemas...

:D
