sounds like a sweet deal
sounds like a sweet deal
I think you should build your own. And stick with the 97 up idea. If you can pull 4000 out of your you know what you could get a great start on a 97 up. Good luck and hang in there you will find her.
I don't know what the guys I sold it to did, but it ran tits when I owned it. Oh well.... When you need help stripping it down to remove the lift, let me know. I'd help and like to say goodbye!! Sounds like the trans is cooked, but the TC and SYE should be OK. Engine is a big maybe, pulled and on a stand, things look a lot different and are easier to fix too. Bet there is still a lot of life in that puppy. You could part the crap out of that thing and make enough to increase your budget for another. The rusty body parts could be fixed and this unibody and frame would be a great project chassis for someone doing a chop top. It has a solid "frame" and a new floor pan. (I know)
BTW the front Bumper is from JCR Offroad in Michigan. It has frame supports which reinforce the steering box area.
I have seen that Jeep around... Both front fenders looked pretty tweaked.
Too big a tire and not enough lift to clear fenders. Crawl under and check for ANY oil on the bottom between the trans inspection cover and the oil pan (rear main seal) Check the back of the valve cover to the top of the bell housing on the trans, leaky cover and probably sludged up head. Check that Trans fluid color and smell. Should be nice and red and no brown or toasty smell. No milky color or foam either. Open both diff fill bolts and check fluid for level, color and if there ais any grit or shavings. Take some tools to check things out. Look for cracks on the little triangular support that hold on the steering box and the unbbody frame there too. No cracks..
Price seems a little steep!!
You're not going to find anything running for that price, but this one looks like it has potential. Looking for a new one with a blown motor MIGHT be a good inexpensive starting point. Otherwise save your pennies till you reach $3K to $4K
