Re: I am soooo done with this xj... please help me search for a "better" one..

its out of my budget.... :( but you never know... we will c!

yes i know im like a freaking woman... changing my mind etc... lol

however sean's rig is pretty sweet! u have to admit that!!

Re: I am soooo done with this xj... please help me search for a "better" one..

I think you should build your own. And stick with the 97 up idea. If you can pull 4000 out of your you know what you could get a great start on a 97 up. Good luck and hang in there you will find her.

cool i hear ya!! i totally understand the value of building your own stuff.. (currently 98% done restoring a diff. "car" from the ground up...)

Thanks for the input!

Re: I am soooo done with this xj... please help me search for a "better" one..

seans is sweet for sure, and a great price. thats what I ended up getting for mine and it still had stock axles and 150k on the drivetrain. althought the body was nicer and mine was probably more streetable. you could part out the rest of your old one though, cause you aint gonna need spare axles for seans rig.

Re: I am soooo done with this xj... please help me search for a "better" one..

well sleeper alero and might have something here...

http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=990358

its the blue jeep mid way down the page....

possible even up trade... or some cash exchange....
etc....
ill let ya guys know!

its a 97 4x4 4.0 auto with 130k!!!

i would most likely keep the front bumper i have now but this would be a solid foundation or seems like it would be and then i would have about 1500 to get a lift with and possibly lock the rear (if its an 8.25...) lock rite or powertrax....

sounds promising and we might meet on friday...

mine has the lift, sye, gas tank skid, dana 44 rear with powertrax, but also has many issues with some rust, tranny shifting issues, and a nasty oil leak...

so i think this would give me a chance to start fresh and built it! maybe long arms... ummmmmm lol

Re: I am soooo done with this xj... please help me search for a "better" one..

I don't know what the guys I sold it to did, but it ran tits when I owned it. Oh well.... When you need help stripping it down to remove the lift, let me know. I'd help and like to say goodbye!! Sounds like the trans is cooked, but the TC and SYE should be OK. Engine is a big maybe, pulled and on a stand, things look a lot different and are easier to fix too. Bet there is still a lot of life in that puppy. You could part the crap out of that thing and make enough to increase your budget for another. The rusty body parts could be fixed and this unibody and frame would be a great project chassis for someone doing a chop top. It has a solid "frame" and a new floor pan. (I know)

BTW the front Bumper is from JCR Offroad in Michigan. It has frame supports which reinforce the steering box area. Gas tank skid is a Tomken, The D44 I got from a guy near Green Bay, I had it completely stripped and sandblasted before the spring and shock mounts were welded on. Keep that stuff for sure!!

ALSO, remove the billet aluminum rear license plate holder with built in light. That sucker cost $60 bucks

Sry Rob....

i understand how you would feel... (as i have built vechiles from the ground up as well....)

it just has left me strand too many times....
trans is popping out of gear...
wont shift unless i rev to like 4500k then shifts hard....
the engine has a nasty leak at the back of the head.. fills the cab with tons of smoke....

FYI im looking to get a 97+ and transfer everything.... i have a good lead on a few....

currently this one... (but that changes like every other minute...)
http://www.autosunderten.com/auto_listing.php?VehicleID=1842368

dont know if it is still for sale... but the thought would be to swap lifts/axles and sell ur old one with the 3" lift....

Nothing is being stripped yet... wish i didnt "have" too but im not going to swap a tranny etc.... just not... sry man.... lots of effort and time is the main thing... (college student full time with 2 jobs... basically 40 hours a week for work then school every night 6-9...) and in the summer its like 50 hours a week...)

anywho... as far as help ill let ya know... i would like to get a solid platform to work with before stripping it down.... (or swapping over stock suspension etc.. and selling it for cheap... for someone else to tinker with..)

ya i know what it it all has etc... i really do... (most likely dont know all off ur hard work that went into it...) but i know what parts etc...

i got a lock rite for the front and a winch i was going to use this summer but i think that will have to go on the "new" rig....

Thanks!!

Re: I am soooo done with this xj... please help me search for a "better" one..

I have seen that Jeep around... Both front fenders looked pretty tweaked.

Too big a tire and not enough lift to clear fenders. Crawl under and check for ANY oil on the bottom between the trans inspection cover and the oil pan (rear main seal) Check the back of the valve cover to the top of the bell housing on the trans, leaky cover and probably sludged up head. Check that Trans fluid color and smell. Should be nice and red and no brown or toasty smell. No milky color or foam either. Open both diff fill bolts and check fluid for level, color and if there is any grit or shavings. Take some tools to check things out. Look for cracks on the little pot metal triangular support that holds on the steering box and the unbbody frame there too. No cracks.. Check air filter for excessive blow by from the valve cover.

Price seems a little steep!!

I'll keep an eye out for a decent replacement for you too.

You're not going to find anything running for that price, but this one looks like it has potential. Looking for a new one with a blown motor MIGHT be a good inexpensive starting point. Otherwise save your pennies till you reach $3K to $4K

ANOTHER

alero found one 130k 97 auto 4x4 8.25.... $1000 bucks beat me too it by about a day..

http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=990358

he wanted to trade...... lol thought about it.. but then def. said NO...

Re: I am soooo done with this xj... please help me search for a "better" one..

thanks for that last one! im texting/emailing him right now....

looks nice!!

Re: I am soooo done with this xj... please help me search for a "better" one..

well im going to check out that last one rocketman posted...

the posting has expired...

its a
98
auto
4x4
black
4 door
112k miles
all new brake componets..

for asking price of 2250obo...

im thinking around 1700-1900...

what do you think? provided everything mechanical is in great shape??

Re: I am soooo done with this xj... please help me search for a "better" one..

sounds like a good deal even at 2250 providing everything is in good shape. especially since I bought my 97 stock w/ 104k 3 years ago for 4500$

When I talked to him he said that he was a bit flexable on price and if i shot him a decent offer then he would take it....

getting the money in the morning and meeting the guy at 2!

i let ya guys know and possible pictures!!

Re: I am soooo done with this xj... please help me search for a "better" one..

well that was a no go....

the owner must have rear ended someone cuz the front bumper and
fenders where pushed in pretty good.. so much so that at the back of the fenders were buckled...

the windsheild was cracked pretty good...
the hood release was gone... only a wire to pull from....
there was quite a bit of rust....
most of the guages didnt work/oil pressure sender "wire/connector" was pulled out...

and he wanted 2500 for it...

not the 2250 advertised...

i offered 1600.... he said "oo man i just stuck in babhhahah in to it..."
so then i told him that i wouldnt go over 1700 for it (cuz of the windsheild he didnt tell me about) and he said he would go down to 2000 but im not paying that for it....

I know that im not going to get something "prefect" or "pretty" but i would have to stick 500 into it to get new fenders and a windshield.... etc...

I have seen better deals with near mint cherokee's that go for a little over a grand....

so im still looking...

Re: I am soooo done with this xj... please help me search for a "better" one..

well im going tomorrow to look at this one...

http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/ctd/1100537945.html

110k on the clock!
I saw that one. Missing all the fender flares and bumper caps. Some rust.

Looks beat.....

what do you mean by beat?

mechanically wise?
or body?
i can deal with some rust....

etc..
is it worth me to travel an hour tomorrow to look at?
also is it worth the 2k they are asking?
granted i understand that you found a heck of a deal with your blue 97 but do u think it would be worth 2k....

anything like a cracked windsheild?
or leaks?
signs of an accident....

i am seriously thinking about looking at it tomorrow afternoon....
please let me know!!
Thanks
