I have been a Toyota guy since the 80's, but inherited a 99 stock XJ from my FIL and it is my wife's baby. I am tasked with keeping it running forever in memory of her dad.

And tomorrow I fly out to Denver to pick up MY 99 XJ with 4" Trailmaster and 33's. Guess it is time for me to get to know these rigs.

Well, I have been a member of Pirate4x4 and IH8MUD for over 8 years now. IH8MUD is the only reason why I worked on my own vehicles......those poor guys got hammered with my questions, and they really came through for me. I am hoping that ya'll can provide the same back ground to educate me on these vehicles. I HATE going to Steelerships or Shops when I can do the repairs for 1/4 the cost, and it gives me some alone time away from work and family from time to time.

Brian's site (I8Mud) is pretty good but falls short on XJ stuff.

There are some very knowlegable folks here that won't mind at all if you bend their ear for advice. So you get the most out of the tech forums, first try a search, then ask the question. A lot of times a search with the right keywords will answer your question right away.

Welcome to the Forum!

I am about 2 hours and some change up the road from KC, hit me up if ya need some help or a shop to work at...I know aand wheel with a few of the guys from KC Jeep Club and KAMO Jeep Club..as well as Trail Krawlers and Offroad Addicts

Thanks XJ&CHZ4ME.....nice knowing there are people around. I was one of the founding members of Keystone Krawlers back in PA (back when it was active) and having a bunch of good folks near by to have a "wrenching" day was always fun. A few rigs, lots of tools, and lots of fun. I learned so much from those days. I never would have tried replacing a clutch on my own without those guys.

BTW...anyone every do a transmission swap on these bad boys? Anyone ever put the 5spd in? I will start a new post for that.

welcome, you're gonna enjoy the xj. 5 spd is an option, but the aw4 auto trans in these is a great trans.

Hey look another KC guy. Welcome. I'm not an actual member (my name isn't cool and red) but I will say I have got to meet a few guys from here and all of them have been really cool. If your in to the club thing check out KC Jeep Club, for the most part decent guys, but they seem to be a little more of the JoCo crowd, KAMO is an offshoot of KCJC, but they are a tight nit group that may be hard to break into. You also have KC4WDA, they tend to be the bigger boys in the area. You also have Kansas Krawlers, and a couple others. Just out of the area is BrushBeaters. (my club affiliate) and they are based a little farther south in Butler/Ft Scott.

The upside is depending on where in the area you live, you are only about 1 1/2 from some really good wheeling. And there is a lot more to wheel if you are willing to drive a little farther. There are at least 5 parks withing 5 hours to wheel at.

Welcome! I'm also in northern KC right in parkville. This site is great, I came to naxja as a complete jeep noob. But I've come a long way with a lil help from friends that I met the on the forum.

The 26th is the Krawl at Tuttle, I am getting in to KC on the late afternoon/early evening of the 25th. Maybe we all can get together and grab a beer & nachos or such??? Anyone up for that? Parakeet, I know your scaring people that time of year, but would be good to see ya!

I have to meet up with you at some point to grab that hood. It really depends on when you hit town. I'll have to pass on the tasty malt beverages since I will be working that night. I just don't know when I'll have time. I will have that Sunday off but you'll probally be ready to head home by then. Drop me a line or give me a call and we'll figure something out.
