Ok well I am new to this board but I am on the JeepsUnlimited board and NAGCA. Well the great guy on those boards just cant answer my question(s).
OK to start off I have a 01 WJ (and I know that this is the XJ board), I have a 6in short arm lift with JKS arms and tera springs and addco sway bars and lots more. Anyway I have a D30 in the front and a D44A in the rear. I am currently in the process of doing a NV242 TC swap for the stock NV247(quadradrive). I hate QD. I am wanting to run manual locking hubs but the WJ has a 5X5 bolt pattern. Neither of the hub kits will work. One is a 5x4.5 and the other being 5x5.5(well you all know this). I was told that I could use the D30 high pinion from a (I think) 94 to 99 cherokee and still be able to use the WJ knuckles and brakes and calipers. Would I have to redrill the WJ rotors out to the 5x4.5 pattern? I am also wanting to run an ARB 30 spline locker with 4.56 gears. Also do any of you guys have any suggestions on doing anything with a D44A? I can use any help, please. From what I have seen there are not too many guys doing this kinda stuff to WJs so the info is kinda limited.

Yes, you'll be able to piece together a front end with manually locking hubs and you won't have to go to an HP30 to do it. (If you WANT to do an HP30 then by all means do so! The ring & pinion will be stronger.) I don't recall the details of what youll need to do, but it's something that's been discussed- possibly as far back as two years ago. Try a search- I had asked a similar question. I didn't follow through with the mod because I didn't have the money.

As far as the aluminum D44 rear the WJ comes with, consensus seems to be that for serious wheeling you should replace it with something more durable such as a standard D44

problem is, gear for the D44 is $$$. same ring and pinion as corvette and viper. the only traction device available for it is an OEM track lok. or you could always weld the spider gears... I do have a spare set of shafts for that rear if you want to by a spare set.. not sure about the WJ front though. never spent much under one... in fact none at all. I had a ZJ.

Actually the cost for the gears was not too bad its just the hassle of having to go in and change something then have to go back in again later. I just want to get it all done at once. I have though about going to a junk yars and picking a d44 or even a 60 if I can find one and start the swapover process. I think that anything will be better then that D44a.

Doesn't the quadradrive setup us those pumps in the TC and both diffs for power transfer, can't remember what they are called, made by a company in san digeo.

I dont know by they wont be used anymore. Its all going in the trash. In the diffs its a seris of clutch plates for the transfer. I have just decided to go with Dana 60s front and rear.

this is a really old post i know, i found it while trying to search for infor on addco antiroll bars. those differentials you speak of a are called varilock. they are a gerator pump that builds up pressure behind the clutch packs rather than having them be preloaded. i was very excited by them when they cam out, but havent heard much good about them. they will last a long time if you dont get crossed up too much, so i read on the internet. they dont even work at all if you are seriously articulated, because the traction differential is too much. after 2002 all wjs used these, even the non-quadradrives had them in the back optionally. now the WKs uses ELSDs, which still uses a gerator pump but the entire system is computerized, sounds like trouble to me.

anyway, fnjeep: you say its all going in the trash. i was curious if you already threw the stuff away or if you sold it. someone might be interested in trying it in an xj. maybe me if i had cash (not likely). also, because the center of the D44A is the same as a viper and corvette, couldn't the high performance diffs made for those cars be used?
