I almost killed a girl tonight...

Local church is having its annual festival. The back driveway lets out on this narrow two-lane. 45mph, no sidewalks, steep shoulder. The kids use it as a shortcut to, I dunno, wherever the hell they go.

I left the house about midnight, to rent some movies, get a late bite. Traffic was heavy in both directions, people leaving the festival, parents coming to pick kids up. People are walking in the traffic lane on both sides, cars are practically rubbing mirrors trying to make room.

I'm crawling along at about 5 mph, watching the group of teens on my right snake by single file. A blonde girl, who's too young to be drunk, but is staggering as if she were, missteps. Starts to stumble down the embankment, would have fallen three feet into the ditch.

Instead, throws herself back the other way. Up the hill. Toward me. And right underneath the jeep, between the axles.

I stop the rig immediately, she grabs the doorsill and pulls herself up. Stumbles again, looks me in the eye. She's probably twelve, maybe fourteen. She turns and continues on her way.

If I had been going seven instead of five, I might not have stopped in time. If I had glanced at the oncoming traffic in that split second she went down, or if the doors had been on the rig and blocked my view, I never would have seen her. Wouldn't have known she was there, til I felt the bump, heard her scream.

A split second. A stroke of luck. Or a dead girl. A grieving family. A lifetime of wishing I had stayed home.

God it's a scary f-in world...

Better luck next time.

On a serious note, was she hot?

Stuff like that can be a scary thing, guess it was not the kids time and maybe, just maybe that close call will get her head out of her ass. Somebody else in another car might have killed her. It's interesting to note that most of us who do alot of off roading, slow crawling, off camber driving tend to be a bit more observant in normal everyday driving, I know I am.

Based on her possible condition, I'd be surprised if she even remembers it much passed "I fell over". And twelve or fourteen? She still has all of high school, and hopefully college to act like an ass.

Yep, scared the crap outta me. I got back home and got drunk. And posted that little bit of melodrama before bed...

I knew somebody would put it back into perspective:

And that pretty much did it. :spin1:

Thanks!

You shoulda put her ass in the XJ, took her ass home, and chewed some ass on some parents. 12-14 yr old acting drunk, someone needs an ass wooping.

You surely yelled at her and said you dumb bitch learn how to walk, or learn how to handle two natty lights

Fawk all that, get out of the car, Mace her and make it a bigger scene so that she'll have to seek some sort of adult care/help and get in trouble. Call the cops, leave the scene.
I carry a CAN of mace in my XJ and I have a little one in my keychain. Fawk resorting to physical violence, I'll just ziptie (handcuff zipties) your ass while you cant see me and then call a few buddies out and off you go in the paddy wagon!
I've always wanted to get a Taser though....
at 50k volts @ 26watts... she would be out long enough to get sober. Hmm...

Dude, you can't just mace a teenage girl for falling over. You would be the one int the paddy wag. And mace on the key chain? I bought one for my girlfriend. Who needs mace? I carry my 3/4" drive breaker bar next to me. I'll close my eyes and beat the sh!t out of you.

What? what, are you gonna stick around until the cops show up?
I'm tired of teenagers ignorance, Just saying, If I was driving along and she did this and was right next to my pass/drivers window I was do a quick shot of mace. Not even to the eyes, just the face in general.

Well... maybe it's a bit harsh. Yeah... it is. But I still like the idea.

aside from the mace I have a 36" extendable riot stick under my seat. Last I checked, its a felony to carry those if you're not law enforcement. It folds to a nice 10" and with the ball end, it would do the job of beating ass like a champ.

I had a close call once, several years ago.

I was in my jeep, driving down the highway in the fast lane, doing about 70.

I was heading southbound, when I noticed a guy, probably in his early twenties, running accross the 4 northbound lanes.

Once he got to the grass median, I realized that he wasn't going to stop and I was going to pulverize him.

I hit the brakes hard, now consider that I was at 6" of lift and 33's. My jeep shook and made all kinds of noises I've never heard before.

Then at the last minute the guy stopped. He was no more than 4 feet from me when I drove by.

Needless to say, it scared the sh!t out of me.

So true. Not to mention some of the techniques used for control offroad can be helpful in some on-road conditions. I would have wrecked my WJ on some ice/snow last winter if I hadn't been on so many snow runs in the XJ.

If, If, If...

But, and here's the important part... it didn't happen, so get over it or park the Jeep.
If someone pulls a Darwinian moment, it's not your fault and not worth worrying about.

Crap like that will really make you stop and think....what if I had left the house 3 seconds earlier...then what?

Had a close call leaving school one day last year (senior year of HS). Was crawling through the parking lot as it was the usual swarm of about 300+ people all running out to their cars and trying to book it out of the parking lot first. I'm crawling at maybe 3-4mph, with another person in a car coming the opposite direction in her lane, but going WAY to fast for the parking lot (probably doing about 10mph).

I then noticed a girl walking right infront of my Jeep, across the lane, towards her car, and she was looking towards the left (towards my direction), and the girl in the oncomming car was looking towards the right....so they were both looking in opposite directions of each other. Myself, and several others could see what was about to happen, and I yelled "look out!" out the window as did the others who saw it coming, and before you know it, the girl in the car ran right into the girl walking across the lane. The girl rolled right off the hood and quarter panel of that car (an olds. cutlass) and landed right infront of my Jeep...almost bounced off the front of it actually.

I called for an ambulance, but by the time I could get through to them, they had already had several calls from others who saw it, and had one in route.

As god as my witness, i'll never forget the sight and sound of her being hit. Her right leg ended up getting broken because of this....but it's definitely something I never want to see or hear again.

Had I been another foot further, she would have bounced off the front of my Jeep after being hit by the car.

Could you post the phone number for the local law enforcement around your place?
