HP gain expected

I can hit 240kph @ 6500 in 4th gear with my Jeep right now and have a dozen witnesses that say I did...

... It's in your head, that what was taught to you. So I have to respect your opinion.

240kph

let's see, that would be 149.1288 MPH.

Very impressive.

Takes me back to 1985 when I bought a new Corvette. Once it got up to 130 MPH, it really struggled to gain the last 10 MPH to the claimed top speed of 140 MPH.

In 1990, the Corvette was rated at 240 HP. Subtracting for drive train losses and rolling friction, about 145 HP was available at the rear wheels to overcome aero drag. That resulted in a terminal speed of 150 MPH. 1 MPH faster than your Jeep. The interesting thing is, the Jeep Cherokee has 30% greater frontal area and about 73% higher Cd. Assuming similar drive train losses and rolling friction, the Jeep would need 540 HP to reach 150 MPH.

Very impressive

Your right John(XJ)Jeep, I was just kdding before. My TJ will pull weelies all day long, and I don't have anything but a drop in K&N filter and a TBS (Throttle Body Spacer, but I'm sure you know what that is since you have such a rare vehicle and know so much about it). I was just testing all these guys that have actually built the 4.0 into strokers and what not. Mine revs to 10K rpm all day long, and I don't know why everybody else's doesn't---oh yeah, it's because they don't have a factory freak show car motor (because they made those for the the NASCAR circuit you know), but don't tell anybody, because we don't want the secret getting out (ya know, about the factory race jeeps we got that NOBODY has ever heard of).

BTW, I just wanted to establish the fact that I'm being sarcastic and you are a complete moron who knows jack sh!t about cars, let alone jeeps. If you have no life and cruise the internet all day long looking for people to piss off, at least lurk a little more and learn something before you post trying to learn something so you can be half way beliveable to anybody. You don't know what your talking about and are either a 35 year old looser that has never got lated and enjoys this sh!t, or you are a 13 yr old kid and is just killing time between porn sites. Of coarse, you could always post some time slips or video, or pics of you lifting the front wheels, and I will gladly appalogize.

I believe him!! With my 4.6 stroker I routinely blow the doors off the new Porsche Carrerra 4s. Easy as dreamin'.:laugh3:

K

Oh yeah. If you can prove it,.. I'm just kidding.

Well you have a not so great corvette. None of the less you've had one and thats much better than what ever I had. Heres an example: A 1985 Porsche 944. Same weight a slightly less than sound aero coff. than your corvette and it only has 220 HP - 187 lbs-ft of torque yet it goes 155 mph. What I have, yes its not very aerodynamic at all but only weighs 2700 lbs. Your corvette on the other hand weighs just under 3300 lbs. Now thats almost 600 lbs heavier than my Jeep.
My jeeps output is what I estimate at 220 HP and probably close to 230-240 lbs-ft of torque according to the mods I put on. I'm not trying to be rudely discrediting you but you got to look at it from different perspectives.

Well I'm not 35 and I'm definatly not 13 because I can write and type much better than a 13 year old. In any case, you have just proved how ignorant you are. You have nothing better to say than to insult me by calling me names and such, accusing me of being some adolesant or some old middle aged man with nothing better to do than just to only piss you off. Also I'm not spouting that I have some freak factory, insane, low-balled engine that can take on NASCAR. I'm simply stating that my Jeep, the whole Jeep was built as a show car. Nothing more. Show cars have to be built better and look better because of the fact you are showing it off to people that will make a review on it. So, it has to run better, look better. The engine has to be imaculate, all parts.

Well heres a picture, it does NOT prove anything to you about my power but its what I drive:
BTW those are 355/50R16 drag slicks on the back.

No offense but that picture looks like photo's I've seen that proves the existence of Sasquatch or the Loch Ness Monster.

A show truck deserves much better quality photo's. Don't you have any better ones floating around?

For the record, weight is not a factor in aero drag calculations, but please continue. You're pumping out some great sig lines.

I guess my prehistoric scanner is on its last legs. The picture itself is not in bad shape though. I'm looking at it right now and can tell you that your right. It does look horrible compared to the actual photo. I'll see if my buddy will let me use his, he has a brand new one. But thats the best picture that I have right now.

MaxJohnson

I read my whole post and not once I said weight was a factor in aero calculations now did I.

(Correction on previous post I made: Those are 335/50's)

maybe you were looking at it from a different perspective :jester:

maybe your slide rule is warped or needs to be lubed. :lecture:

maybe Bernoulli or Newton were wrong :wierd:

maybe your witnesses were drunk or stoned :speepin:

maybe the air is really, really, really thin where you live :canada:

maybe you just "thought" it was a Jeep :repair:

maybe your mom's calling you :rattle:

I was prepared to give you the benefit of the doubt until I read that post.
I'm claiming 265hp at the flywheel from my 4.6 stroker and my XJ's top speed would have been around 133mph (5000rpm in 4th) if it didn't have a 116mph top speed governor.
I don't know how you came up with that "240kph @ 6500 in 4th gear" claim but now you've just gone right off the scale on my bullshitometer.

i would put my input in but my gauge stops reading at 85...anybody know what 4350 rpms in 5th gear reads out to on a 5spd with 3.55's (instead of 3.07's)

sry but with 220 hp...your not getting to 149mph...espescially in a box

i still dont know how i missed this thread...
ok i was running with a header back exhaust....no muffler no cat just about a foot and a half of pipe after the header..

when i had to put back on my muffler i noticed a consideral amount of power loss and it felt even worse on the spray...i also noticed it wasnt pulling as hard from 40-110

using this: http://www.dfw-tx4wd.org/gears.html also good for all kinds of stuff.
i'm gonna guestimate about 125-130. you don't have a governor do you?
also, my xj is a canadian model which was built in the canada plant. i have had 134 mph. verified on mine (almost stock) by gps. mine doesn't have a governer. it being canadain has to do something with it-??? i have tried and tried to peg it out before, but it will effin' fly. faster than i feel comfortable doing.
but i could not imagine ANY xj doing 150 without major power adders.

If anyone is interested go to http://www.iskycams.com/techtips.php#2001

Take a few minutes to read what they have to say about "backpressure" and cams. Just good info. May even help clear up the subject for those of you that are in the middle ground just wanting an answer. Great thread. Lots of spirited people here with a common passion...our XJ.
