i like the big cut out flares but dont got the cash i got the old style flares on my new style xj all cut to fit look good but has anyone made there own mold to form there own flares with like a shopvac and a 110v grill set up if so what kind of plastic did you use i worked in a van factory years ago and made door pannels shrouds just wondering

There was someone here about 7-8yrs ago that said he could mold any shape you had a model for!

a mold is the hard part i think we used wood and filler at the shop i worked at and makeing a vacum table isnt to hard i messed with it a little when i was big into rc cars befor i went full size

btw those 400 buck flares after the mold only take like 45 sec. to make if you have a real shop like those 4oo buck flare companys

true, but you have to remember in molding factory's like that molds cost well over $10k, and then after that you are paying for the name.

but I know what you are saying. after the mold is paid off, the material and time to make one comes down to nothing, at most like 2 bucks. I work in a molding factory and its a joke the band that can be made on molds for name brand stuff like bushwacker and safari snorkels.

Just screw some 1 1/2" hose on the fender.:D

Poly foam is the key to start, then glass.

Hey 1980dg, can you post a picture of your current set up. I have some old style flares on my garage floor that I want to put on my 99 xj. I think I know how I am going to cut them, but just want to see yours just in case.

sorry if that was not what you were looking for im not good at rightups its hard for me to expain things while i am typeing

No that is perfect. So you drilled through the outside of the flare so you could fasten them right? How did you fasten them to the fender? Since I can't acces the inside of the fender on the rears now since they are so high up, I was thinking pop rivots were my only choice. Or can you get inside the wheel well from inside the jeep?

i put holes in outside of fender flares to use a screwdriver head on outside and lock nut on inside i didnt use the metal peaces just plastic flares on the rear if you pull the truck compartment inside shouds you can acces the holes that way some hints when you do the rear you wont be able to use all stock holes from flares on the rear door half just put the top one in and ajust it where you wont it then drill the rest of the holes for the last hole you can use a piece scrap thin metal to build a brace for that i spaced the flare a little apart in the rear after i cut it in half just take your time for cutting the flares in half i used a cut off wheel worked real nice you also know you cant cut the rear wheel well up to high you can cut the lip off and then section it into peaces becouse of the tack welds befor i folded back the peaces i cleaned and used liquid nail that way no rust could form there is a lot better rightups than this a lot better so do some searching
