how to break a d35

i have wheeled it a few times with the 36's and havent broke anything yet. knew it was time somethin was goin to go.

Was that stock shafts? You snapped the shaft, right? Was there any other damage?

yeah it was the stock shafts. d35 with 36" tires. no other major damage. blew the wheel cylinder out. i knew it was goin to happen always carried spares, just waitin on a check to get here so i can go get a 8.8

Hmm, well I guess im lucky. I had 40"s on my XJ back when I first got it and I wheeled it pretty hard. Then I got some 35"s and I wheeled it even harder and it didnt break.

When you say wheeled it hard, do you mean in the mud? Mud is A LOT more forgiving than rocks.

no lol. i actually did bash it on rocks 4-5 times. There's alot of that white rock around here. Limestone is it?

lime stone is alot softer and more forgivin. also was it a 35 or a 8.35. i have wheeled this one real hard on all kinds of rocks with 33's and never broke it

He isn't lying on that one. I have seen him with 33's on his welded D35, on 4 diamond trails at superlift where he hopped all 4 tires off the ground coming up the two ledges at the end of Can Opener. I was honestly amazed that he didn't break anything that day.

i would think a trussed, welded d35 would be fairly stout, since you are fixing the
common failure points (spiders, housing flex, etc)

I've got a 8.25 in my garage that I'm building, but I got it for very cheap, so its just a better deal all around for me.

the weakest part of the 35 is the small shafts. i snapped the end of the shaft off it was hard to get it out of the spider

there is a craigslist add for a 8.8 disk 410 for 150 in houston for those interested. im supposed to be pickin one up for my self this weekend as long as things work out

i wont break another 35 shaft after sunday. im pickin up x2elites 8.8 sat and puttin it in my xj sunday. also gettin a set of 36x12.5x15 tsl tomorrow
