Hmm, well I guess im lucky. I had 40"s on my XJ back when I first got it and I wheeled it pretty hard. Then I got some 35"s and I wheeled it even harder and it didnt break.
When you say wheeled it hard, do you mean in the mud? Mud is A LOT more forgiving than rocks.

i would think a trussed, welded d35 would be fairly stout, since you are fixing the
common failure points (spiders, housing flex, etc)
