How much wiring on the 4.0 can be bypassed?

Ok how much wiring on the 4.0 Renix system can be bypassed? I picked up an XJ for $100 and thinking about making a hardcore rig for me and let the wife drive my XJ on the trail so I need to know. Like can the cps and that kinda stuff be bypassed I am thinking along the lines of 2wires from starter 2 from alternator and 2 to the fuel pump and that be about it. I can hard wire my lights and put in a toggle switch or something

Very little. The 4.0 uses inputs from the different sensors to make it run. If you get rid of the CPS for example the computer does not know where the crank is in its rotation. Then again if you were to adapt a carb I guess it could be bypassed.

yup...

you could throw on a 4.2 intake and run a weber, run 4.2 dist + ignition and eliminate the ECU, but if it's an auto, you still need the TPS to signal the TCU to control the tranny (unless you run it completely with switches)

what's wrong w/ a little wiring? the renix FI can be diagnosed 100% w/ a freakin multimeter! try that w/ a newer XJ

nothing wrong with it I actually almost have all the wiring hooked back up. I have to run some starter wiring and wiring to the a/c and alternator and I should be just about done with wiring the guy was getting ready to pull the engine tranny and tcase but I said I would take the whole rig.

if you want to run it as wirelessly as possible, I would say convert it to propane. similar to a carbed gas engine, but no problems with angles, and a few other advantages.

then if you have the AW4 behind it, it can be easily controlled with a rotary switch with no sensor inputs. I am going to swap an AW4 behind my Renix 4.0 (has a BA10 now) and I won't use the TCU or any sensors, just a rotary switch and a pushbutton.

Do you have any more specific plans for the switch - for my setup (propane also - 300A mixer) I intend to use a voltage regulator to get a steady 5v for the tps and the let the tranny have the other 12v stuff it needs to run as the OEM intended...
