How much does your built XJ weigh?

Yes, that was with 3/4 body, comp cut, and low rockers. Maybe the half door and gutted door. Probably not full doors with glass.

I'm at 4300 with me & 1/2 tank of gas. JIM.

Mine was a little over 4800# w/ driver, fully loaded, steelies & 32s, rails, rack & rear bumper/carrier. Don't remember how much gas. I no longer have steelies, but now running 33s + Currie steering & upper quarter panel armor. Prolly the same weight. Still a pig either way. Mileage sux - but I don't keep it for good gas mileage.

Question: can you pull into any truck weigh station to have it weighed??

I went to a local scrap yard once, and the next time I used the truck weighing place out near Rausch Creek the last time I was there. IIRC the local yard was free; they charged a small fee in PA.

I'm not sure on the east coast, but in cali I don't think you can. If you take your rig to your local landfill, they should weigh it for you and give you a sticker with said weight on it, for free 99

Because after 6 other 4wd xj's I've owned the 2wd is much smoother for go fast in the dunes boss. With speed you don't need 4wd, especially if your locked. I've gone through shallow rivers, rock beds, etc. And in the event I get stuck (which I have never before) i have a winch to pull me out. That's why.

I remember the days!! Back in the '80's we started running our 4WD's in 2WD in the dunes. Everyone thought we were nuts. There's a learning curve that took a couple years to get comfortable with. Only got stuck once in a rat hole. But for casual wheeling and dunes it works! Our group had fairly well built CJ's with V8's... mostly Chevy 350's built. But others had stock Mopar V8's and did pretty darn good. We ran paddles (Sand Tires Unlimited) on special 12" wide aluminum wheels on the rear and small grooved tires in the front. Rear tires were regrooved: every other paddle removed as was excess rubber. The tire & wheel could be picked up with 2 fingers. Unsprung weight was the key as was lightening rotating mass. Opened up a whole new world of running dunes in a Jeep. In our case, we kept our front diff so we could still do crawling.

Edit: forgot to mention: Jeep was a CJ-2A and weighed in at 1900 lbs. with a Chev. 350 / TH350 trans / T-18 T/C and 44 diffs. Don't even want to know what my '94 XJ weighs.... mostly exploring now.

exactly! my buddies 4wd jeep got stuck in a witches eye. His vehicle stayed there for two days lol.

Back from the dead post but I just weighed mine and it made sense to add it here.

4373 lbs no people and just under 3/4 tank of gas.

99 4x4 sport
4.0 np231
trussed hp30
rugged ridge steering
32s on MT alloys
bds longarm
significant mid and gas tank skids (~110 lbs here)
rigid bumpers f/r
winch w/ synth line
full size spare on custom swing out carrier
rocker replacement tubes
trunk storage compartment w/ all recovery gear and high lift.
full interior

Still can't quite place where all the weight is going... That's 1200 lbs heavier than stock.

I recycled some metal a few weeks ago and it weighed 2940 with me in it(185#), jack and torque wrench, no spare, a couple misc items, and a gallon of gas. I've since removed rear Addco sway, so it's right on the 2700# line. 96 2dr 2wd ax15 4.6l, stripped interior(still has door panels), a/c and radio delete. Not quite built like yours.

Mine is right around 4300 these days.
33's, moab wheels... Rigidco winch bumper, tire carrier bumper, rock hard cage. Sliders, long arms and lots of other stuff.

Not light. That explains the 13mpg all day long.

4882 with nobody in the car.
