How do I keep my coils from falling out???

If you try to argue with experience, the experienced guys just smile. :)

I'm smiling.

If dustybob refuses to listen to most experienced member here, that's his problem. Guess Goatman's 40+ years of experience do not count for much in the eyes of a youngster. We were once young too and thought we knew everything and then one day, you wake up and realize how little you really know.

I would be afraid of accidentally catching some air and having the front end cave in. Why would anyone want to take that type of chance just for a little extra ineffective flex?

Is it just me or is there no bumpstop bolted on? If you want mega flex for the rti ramp that's fine, a stock bumpstop would help with your coil falling out. Being lifted, you should have longer than stock bumpstops. With as long as your shocks are, and no bumpstops, what keeps them from bottoming out?

What do you mean? You're not supposed to use the shocks as bump stops?

Dude don't listen to these guys.

If you get rid of your flex, all your friends are going to make fun of you.

Grab some rubber bands and wrap them around the coil and tape them to the frame.

Seriously, this whole hobby is about who's the coolest anyway.

QFT

Looks like MM has cracked our real intentions. We can't have some kid look cooler then us old timers! Looks like the jig is up, Rich! Just no foolin' the youngins!

I deal all the time with people who want the longest possible shock....
like me, hahaha
at least i wasnt limiting upstroke with them :eyes:

But yea, to the OP, no sense in arguing with the experienced guys, even if it doesnt make sense to you now. all you're doing is burning bridges to valuable info.

and i make stuff all the time with open/open where other guys may need a locker. even when i had my sway bars connected with no flex. it's because i'm not afraid of the skinny pedal.

i know about Finesse. I enjoy their entire catalog.

Come on guys, the answer is clear. JB weld the top of the coil in place, Done.

I was going to suggest welding, but jb weld should Work.
Or measure the distance between the bump tower and the coil bucket, cut a piece of tubing that length and then weld to bump tower and coil bucket. Viola coils won't fall out any more.
Oh yeah did I suggest "limit straps" yet?

I've been told to get some limiting straps, but I don't want to limit my flex and the rebuttal is that I need to limit so I don't damage my shocks... My shocks are plenty long and I have never maxed them.

limit straps. one the coil unseats the tire has zero weight on it. it is doing very little for traction at that point.

EDIT: guess i should have assumed all that was already said.

I understand you can get to a point when more flex is just stupid and won't do you any good unless all you do with your XJ is set one tire on a forklift. However, I'm not to that point and I'm not looking to obtain any more flex beyond where I'm currently at. I just need to keep things retained.
limit your droop and add some compression. flex isnt all droop.

Taking away performance??? I pride myself in conquering obstacles with my open diffs that others require lockers for. How do I do it? I keep it on all 4's
sorry, its not the flex. open diffs are always going to put power to the wheel with the least resistance. so 99% of the time your going to be putting power to your drooped side with zero weight on the tire.

And some of your "best performing" XJs were probably built on a high dollar budget, mine was built on a fairly low budget with my most expensive part being my tires. The main reason mine falls out is probably because my springs aren't tall enough and the stupid puck spacer i'm using.
lose the spacers, add longer coils... you solved it.

oh, and then add bump stops and limit straps.

holy hell.

THE XXXX IS WRONG WITH THAT IDIOT? HOLY CRAP

I am so glad he lives (died?) in Tennessee, that's way too far for that abortion of a track bar to make it.

That is exactly the stubborn, inbred backwoods hick type behavior that gives jeepers a bad reputation.

Half the people in that thread are giving bad tech out too, like the guy saying the track bar is cast iron, the one saying pitman arms are cast (pretty sure they're forged...)

... and then the guy has the balls to ask for friggin control arms and shit too and starts demanding info and updates and pics and whatnot? When the guy is bending over backwards to help him out at all?

:wow: that trev guy has the patience of a saint.

how much good do you think a tire that's sitting on the ground with the weight of half an axle and a rim/tire on it is gonna do you?

Probably more than a tire in the air :dunno:

I also note that the front is flexing all over the place but the rear is acting pretty normal. Must make for an interesting ride when it seesaws the other way as your rear tire climbs something.

Way to make some pretty far fetched assumptions based on three pictures that really show little to nothing about what's going on in the rear.

Sheesh, lotta haters in this thread. I understand putting in your two cents but quit harping on it and dissin the guy's rig and try addressing the actual question he asked

That being said, you need either longer coils, or limit straps. Nice jeep btw, it looks like it performs very well

Dude did/is getting a custom track bar made
Out of that whole deal.
Maybe I should try to make some axles out of pvc and see if any one will donate some custom axles. :/
