.. so we all know i rolled my jeep, so i had to get a new hood, well it turned out that my buddy had one layin around off a 92, the only thing is that the 92 hood doesnt have the triple latch set up that my 97 does, so i figured the next best thing to do would be hood pins, how hard is this install? whats the best way to do it? any pictures or thread write ups on this would help. thanks.

Nate.

Pretty much I took the header panel off by taking the out the bolts above the radiator and behind the head lamps, took out the side latches(reused the springs later around the pins), got it lined up, drilled some holes dropped my Kragen bought hood pins in, kept the safety latch and reinstalled the header panel. Took me about 2 hours with beer

i like the autofab's. with NO trace of oem. i use a hatch strut to open the hood, but the rubber inserts make it a nice tight/quiet friction fit. even if theyre hard to keep clean. i think the ones with circular peices of 'stainless' look like crap!!.

...mount the pins to the upper radiator crossmember, gut the hood/mechanism, re-assemble. put grease on the tips of the pins and close the hood. drill that out with a 1/4 bit, then get the right size hole saw and use the guide hole. any fitment issues? use a JCR reamer on the inside of the rubber bushing to taste!

dudeinanxj did a write up on cherokee forum when he owned my jeep. still going strong. I want those ones from polyperformance though!

I like the looks of the poly-performance setup too, but there is something to be said for a captured pin design. Nothing like loosing a hood pin.
94XJ-s pins shield/cap might not be the prettiest design, but when you close the hood, you know where the pin is.

Anyone remember the OEM pins on the early '70s Mopars with the huge idiot cords attached?

ive lost my cellular at least 4 times in the last 2 years or so, ive gone thru 2 wallets and 2 sets of keys in about the same ammount of time. i loose stuff easily!

ive yet to lose a hood pin. i carried a spare in the glovebox for a while, but it proved to be un needed....

i put em on the stud while the hoods up.
its a non-issue.

yup, got me some auto fab pins for $20, gonna make some leashes for the pins so i dont loose them. i prolly wont gett around to doin it till next weekend though.

you guys do know poly performance doesnt make those, right?
autofab is a bigger company in the dezert scene, and theyre available from all kinds of race shops, including kartek and if im not mistaken, ORW..

in case anyone didnt know, mr clean magic erasers(the white sponges your cleaning lady uses) clean these things up to amazing condition.

NAPA has the pins used for these (in a few different sizes) with leashes on them in the Ballkamp catalog's farm & industrial section, if you are worried about losing them. ;)

weight loss aint worth mentioning, as if you're worried about weight, 2 feet of dom tubing will negate anything lost on hood latch mechanism...

it does drastically simplify the hood though...
