hood louvers

These louvers are on Xnowyte. They are polished stainless steel(might make them satin though) marine units. They are designed for engine bay heat removal on boats. I placed the drivers side above the manifold so that when I take it offroading the heat will simply rise. The low speeds do not allow for rapid engine heat evacuation via a more forced method. In a high speed application I would simply be concerend with air coming out of the radiator and use another method for engine bay heat extraction, as I did on the Warrior. The passenger side helps to cool things up as well, but its more for keeping symmetry than anything else.

Guy that looks really sharp. Are you setting that up for off-road racing?

BTW, like your statement in your sig.

Rich, not a bad suggestion for hood louvers. BTW, the marine louvers are for fume removal, and the engine bays have fans to circulate the air to protect against any potential fumes. The high price of marine electrical equipment is because they are less spark prone, fires on boats are a really bad thing. :) I know it makes no difference using them on an XJ, just a little info.

Thanks XJsaga, no Xnowyte will just be used for just some offroad fun. I hope to build one up for Jeepspeed racing as well, as soon as my $$ situation improves.

Thanks Rich, I knew it was to do something for the boat engines (can you tell I dont boat :D). They have many styles and prices swing wildly, these were right in several ways.

another good thing is that they will allow for fire-supressant injection just in case. I had a buddy of mine's xj burn because the engine compartment was too tight and they couldn't get at the fire from any angle.
On another note, I have seen rigs that tried snorkels through the hood and are now running open areas with factory fans coming out of them for cooling. They swear by the set-up. I always would worry about water getting in through such openings in deep-water fording. If you are pushing a wake it'd pour right in.

I just think they look good and are not stick-on!
good for you!

I've been running those for about a year and they work great! I don't have the bling bling chrome ones but they work just the same.

Today I let the Jeep idle for about 30min to dry out any condensation in the exhaust system since it has not been used for a while. The hood was cold to the touch, the louvers however were so hot you could not even touch them...they are working superbly!

My GTP louvers are actually off the truck and have Flame Red Clearcoat drying now :)

No worries about water ingestion when crossing streams and such, as if you are THAT deep, the engine bay is full from underneath anyhow...hope that all the dialectric grease is doing it's job!
