i have a 01 cherokee sport with the nv3550. im getting ready to home brew lift it with a bastard pack, new shocks, adj track bar, and grad cherokee v8 front springs and maybe some pucks if i need em.

my first question is what year s-10 leaves should i use or are they all the same?

Second because i have a manual will the front DS out of an auto cherokee work for me in the rear with the PROC SYE?

also about how much lift will the grand cherokee v8 coils gove me and what year should i get them out of?

what size center pins should i get for the leaf packs?

thanks in advance guys

wade

Grand coils will only give you ~1.5 inches. From my understanding you can only use the auto front driveshaft with SYE on an auto trans. due to length differences. Any S10 leaves shoudl be fine, look for one that's sitting high so the spring will have a lot of bow if you want more lift.

My v8 zj coils only gave about .5". There are different kinds of coils in the zj and depending on what kind you get you'll get more or less. The upcountry ones will give you the most. You'll probably need pucks though.

Any spring the same width will work to make your own packs out of (s10, dakota/durango, other cherokee leafs etc)

When you get your s10 springs, make sure you get the pack with 4 leafs in it, not the 3 leaf pack. If you use the XJ main and cut the eyes off the s10 pack and use the whole thing ( with or w/o the overload) you should get around 4.5 to 5 inches out of it.

I don't remember offhand what size the center pin was but you will also want to pick up some pack clamps to keep your leaf pack from fanning out.

i have the same year and tranny and i used a front driveshaft. I had a shop lengthen it for about $60. I'm at 4 inches and it has been going strong for about 2 years with some tough trails.

k guys thanks for the tips.

i dont really want 4.5" of lift out of the bastartd pack though...hmmm maybe ill just buy a lift, i dunno. thanks for the info ill keep it in mind.

I uesd mid 90s S10 leaves in my first bastard pack and F150 coils from JY. Worked and gave by about 2-2.5 inches of lift. Used the monroe shocks that I found the specs for in a Monroe catalog but can't remember that part number. This was in 2004 so my memory has faded on the rest of it but I had less than $100 in my whole lift not counting new tires. Now have a RE 3.5 and am very happy with it.

X2

I measured wire diameter on mine, and compared to other XJs, ZJs at the junkyard. I also got a set of stock coils from a '91-'96 XJ with the up country package. They are made from wire that is thicker than the ZJ coils.

I have the V8 springs, I like the ride, I had to install new shocks to damp the springs. I had to use coil spacers to get the height I desired.

I used stock XJ leafs to add to my pack, I like the ride. I was able to remove the rear anti-sway bar with no ill effects at highway speed. When I have time to fart around with the supension again, I'll add longer shackles for more droop.

I'm at 2 1/2", I have a blast with it. It is my wife's daily driver. It won't go any higher while it is her primary transportation.

Just how high do you want to go?

This was my low buck recipe and it has worked great. A few others have done the T-Bird Coils swap and improved on it. Add a stock isolator pad and you have a quick 4.5 to 5" front lift. Bastard pack the rear, S-10, Bronco, XJ leaves all work well. Spend some time getting the lengths cut so you split the difference between each leaf (the end of each leaf is centered between the one above it and the one below it) except for the cut down main which runs full length. Be sure to put in some sort of rubbing pad (deaver or Home Depot HDPE).

Here is the T Bird Coils link

Dont forget to add sway bar extensions (F250 rears swap in easy and are quick disconnect with pins and wing nuts). 1.5 lift shackles will cost as much as the rest of the lift but are well worth it to make the rear flex out.

haha.. you beat me to posting that very link by 1 min! lol

Edit- What about using the full s10 etc pack w/out the eyes cut off, replacing the xj's main and the rest.. I haven't read about that anywhere?

Citizen,

Did we meet at Big Dogs last September?

John

Well maybe I saw you on I-95 at some point, I run down to Norfolk a lot. The tag sure looks familiar.
