home brew crossmember skid

thnaks for ur ideas.

i plan on using mostly 1/4 and some 3/64 and some 1/8 angle iron as bracin in some spots. i was thinkin of using a strip on the inside of the rail and puttin the bolts all the way though, i figured soem1 would probly say that. the whole big bottom piece will be one piece with the ends bent up and the crossmember area built off that. the front structure will be built off the front of the crossmember. the straps will be built of that with angle iron bracin at the intersection of the tranny skid area. im probyl gunna change that to a non-removeable piece (easier to build and probly stronger). any other ideas?

Your front bracket will be running right thru the driveshaft.

are you sure? i modeled those supports after the ones found on the Tomken tranny skids and i figured with the drop in it thta it would clear the DS. but i could be wrong, what does everyone esle think?

Thats the way I see it,the driveshaft(with both up/down travel) takes up the whole space.

Yes,its seems pretty obvious you really have spent any time looking under your XJ.I can only assume that the Tomkin skid your looking at would be for a "stock" XJ.
