Much of these are scheduled in advance and PNW4WDA has a publication (I don't get it anymore) that used to list clean-ups. I assume this is the Feb 11th thing you are talking about where much of this becomes more clear?

Michael

Yessir. Winter convention is where we all get real drunk and try to make a schedule.

Just kidding, that's where we get together and let the organization know what's going on at the various areas and try to hammer stuff out so we aren't stepping on eachothers toes.

However, besides the work parties, there are "Adopt-A-Trails" which NAXJA could get involved in. Those are seperate from the work partes, and the NAXJA PNW chapter would have sole responsibility and organization of an adopt a trail if you would like.

I personally think it would be a great idea. If you all want to put it to a vote to adopt a trail... Please do so.

Pretty much, the BASIC criteria for adopt a trail are.

1) you are responsible for emergency trail repair, no matter what time of year. So if you have a "wheeling season" in your club you still have to maintain your trail in the winter

2) you are responsible for personally running your trail BI-MONTHLY or once every two months = 6 times a year. All this means is you will have a group or even one person check the trail at least bi-monthly to make sure everything is okay on your trail.

3) make sure you file hours with the DNR or USFS as to trail repair and maintenance needs, as well as hours worked. This is INVALUABLE information for getting grants and it also has other special perks.

So if NAXJA wants to adopt a trail, I think we should put it to a vote, then after that we can vote on an area, then vote on other stuff.

Remember folks this is FREE it only costs you your time. The gov't supples all the resources and material. We wheel these areas anyway, why not fix them while we are at it?

The Tamers Have a Trail at Elbe and also a Section of Highway on RT2. There has NEVER been a time when we haven't worked, then wheeled.

Let me know folks, I am all for putting it to a vote, and then I will let you know the pros / cons of all the areas and we can get the ball rolling... it isn't hard.

Our original plan was to work a few clean-ups, then assess how much manpower we could muster. That plan has never come together, mainly my fault, for putting a higher emphasis on wheeling over cleaning. That being said, I still want to adopt a trail at Evans as we discussed many months ago, Karl.

I can guarentee my support of such a project, and I know I can drum up at least a few people and myself. Hell, I'll do it myself if nobody else will.

PM me and we can start the process.

Karl,
I REALLY appreciate your input. This is something that we (as a club) have discussed (somewhat formally). And it is something that we do have interest in. My concern is that we have yet to prove that we (as a club) can support other clean up's.

Our plan at the moment is to prove to ourselves that we can consistently put the resources together to support clean up's. Once we have done that, then we are very interested in adopting a trail.

Personally I think that we can put the resources together to this, we just need to make sure that everyone involved understands how much work it will take, and are prepared to sign up for the responsibility.

Hell, I'll do it myself if nobody else will.
Matt, I think several of us feel the same way. But we need to prove that we can get enough people together regularly to put the effort together that it really needs to be sucessfull. The last thing we want it 1 or 2 people doing all of the work, and getting burned out.

We will get there!! We have come a long way in the last couple of years. Keep us up to date on trail clean up's and I would bet that in 6 - 12 months we should be ready to make the next step.

Michael

I'm trying to round up a chainsaw, other than that I'll throw in an assortment of yard tools, (Axe,Shovel, ho's). I think matts planning on .45acp, and 7.62 for all his brush clearing needs.

I might be able to make it early for the clean up, but I'll either need directions or to follow someone there. What time are you headed up there Matt?
