Just moved to silverthorne from philly for a job, and my 01 xj is sluggish. I heard you lose something like 30% but is there anything you can do to help keep some of the power.

Not really. Just the usual aftermarket mods, but it's going to be a slug no matter what compared to sea level.

what he said, I live at 7,000 ft altitude, a good loss of power up here in the thin air

This question might be better posted in OEM tech. I'm not certain, but there may be some computer programming you can have done to help it accomodate to the altitude.

The best mods are usually air intake and exhaust related.

The percentage varies depending on who you talk to but it's usually 3-4%, so figure 20-28% loss... depending on altitude... Your MAP sensor should compensate for the increased altitude automatically... You may want to disconnect the battery to confirm that everything has been reset and compensated for the conditions. Other than that the usuall modifications come into play (I/E).... HTH

Will.

The crankshaft position sensor comes in a high-altitude version.

The CPS will definately help.

$upercharger...

:D

If you hit the salvage yards, they are real easy to tell apart. The normal, low altitude, version has the pickup centered in the metal bracket. The high altitude one has a definate offset on the bracket.

There is no stock high altitude CPS for a 2001. You can get an adjustable one from Turbo City and that might help. High altitude effectively decreases the compression ratio, so you don't need to worry about octane. Don't buy the 87 like you did in Philly. Don't bother with the adjustable MAP sensor, AFAIK all it can do is enrichen the mixture, which you don't need. I think a better intake may help a bit, don't expect miracles.

I lived in Philly two years, all I miss are the cheesesteaks, bakeries, and the large job market. We have a couple of passable cheesesteak places in the Springs.
