Hi-Lift on hood?

So I was wondering if anyone has mounted their hi-lift on the their hood. If you have pics please post.

I really like the idea, the way it looks...so on. Anybody know of a good reason not to?

Seen it on Wranglers but not XJ's. My wife hates the idea, but she's free to pink out her Corrolla all she wants.

I don't have a rear tire carrier nor the money for one anytime soon so that is not an option, and I would rather not drill through my bumpers but I'm not closed to the idea.

hilfts are better off inside the rig. If you're gonna leave it out in the weather, better be RELIGIOUS about greasing/maintaining it. They're dangerous enough in good shape, and even moreso if they're rusty and don't slide/lock correctly.

x2 on that as mine is a bit rusty... I need to grease this thing before it locks up on me, again.
That and it may be difficult to get on and off the hood with out damaging it, the hood that is. Hi-Lifts are not light.

wranglers and landcruisers can doit because it doesnt block their vision on a cherokee I think it would be a cop magnet. Try pawn shops or flea markets for a yakima or thule got mine for $25. New would've been $500

im thinking about taking my front bumper off and making my hi-lift there. but take it off when it rains and snows. its a cool spot i have seen one like how i want mine it was a cool idea cause my front bumper is a little rusted or maybe even my rear bumper...or maybe even both... i thought it would be a cool idea

I had one mounted on the front of my old TJ with the 4x4RAC they sell to mount it

but even with a butt-load of straps on it the thing rattled like hell and the handel came loose on the highway at about 75 mph

when I get a new jack I will be storing it inside for sure

doug

I had mine on the back bumper for a while but it got rusty and didn't work to well when I needed it.(I never really greased it though) I now have it mounted to a rack I built for the back similar to the olympic rack. Here are some pics click to make them bigger

I've heard that a hi lift up to 48" long will fit under the rear seat?

someone recently showed a pic and his was under the rear seat, that's what I am going to do when I get a 48"

Thanks for the advice, I don't like the sound of rust so Stumpalump showed me how to fit it on the floor running from the back seat to the front of the front passenger seat. Simple, easy, cheap, and rust free.

Hood? ew... to each their own. but thats just a little hokey to me sorry

Wanna share?

Glad to hear you decided against the hood, that wouldn't be ideal to have it come through the windshield in the event of a collision.

I used to keep mine under the rear seat.

how? picS?

lol,

lift up seat bottom , place jack under seat bottom, close seat bottom down.

You may need to remove the foot to get it to fit.

Nah, I just slid it undereath the passenger seat. Really doesn't take up that much floor space. Just take out the seat and slide it in. You can bolt it down if you need to.
