howdie my names Ryan i just started goin on and have been on for about a week. I LOVE WHEELIN! and have been into it for about 2 years and i first started goin with a buddy of mine who of course had a 92 XJ with about a 4.5 inch rubicon express lift and some other cool stuff. Since then ive been dieing to get my hands on my own XJ. So about a week and a half ago i finally purchased my 87 XJ with about a 2.5 maybe a 3.5 inch skyjacker lift not quite sure on the size but i got it for 500 bucks and its in GREAT shape accept that it doesnt run... lol the guy told me all it needed was the head gasket replaced so me and my buddies do that and there are still problems that we gotta figure out and it shouldnt take much to get it running just a lot of time. it has 240,000 miles on it and i was wondering should i just try and find a new motor? i dont have a whole of money to spend cause im in that poor college student situation. if ne one has some advice or knows of where i can get a running motor for cheap it would be GREATLY appreciated. THANKS!

Are you going to school in SoCal? because Roseville would be in the Sierra Chapter.

If you only paid $500 for your XJ then I wouldnt spend too much for a new engine. Go to a pick-your-part 22nd-25th (half off days) and get a complete engine for $100 and drop it in....problem solved, as long as its a good engine. And while your at it you oughta buy my bolt in dana 44 for $350.

lol yea i just realized im suppose to be in the sierra chapter so i reposted in there and i have a dana 44 in the rear right now thanks though. and i want to grab a new motor for it but i think i need an all new wiring harness too cause this one is just soooo messed up

im goin for all of the above. im not gonna make it much bigger than it is for a while. maybe spacer and shackles but nothin big yet cause i dont have the money. i just want the thing running its soooo close to turning over but it just wont

what is the history on the motor? what have you diagnosed? why is it close to turning over?

It would be easiest to replace with the same year. You should be able to get a junkyard motor for under a grand with some sort of guarantee.
