Hesco Aluminium Cyl. Head

It looks like it could be worth it, but only if I was building a street fighter or a race Jeep. Glad to see that they've eliminated the triangular ports, if the stock heads have them, from what I understand, that was a major killer of 2.2/2.5 SOHC Mopar heads/gaskets.

When I was picking up my stroker long block from Golen Engine Service yesterday I saw one of the hesco heads sitting there. it looks like a very nice product albeit expensive.

He uses one on a dyno engine cause the pushrod holes are enlarged which makes it easy to change cams without pulling the head off. (you can pull the lifters out through the top)

He said with his stroker kit and that head he can break 300hp.

I asked him if it was possible to machine the stock heads in the same way (enlarge the push rod holes) and Chad said that it would be too much work to set up the machinery.

I don't know if I would trust an aluminum head on a cast iron block....they have different heat expansion properties, putting 2 different metals together with different thermal properties and I would think I would be more susceptible to blown head gaskets.

they do it (aluminum head cast iron block) all the time with v8's.

at least some aluminum block motors have iron piston sleeves too.

food for thought.

You have to keep on top of coolant changes for Aluminum heads (although there never was a problem with that on my turbo-K cars, and those were supposed to be horable). I'd still just do it for a hot street engine (not even as a DD's head), just for possible durability problems in traffic let alone on trails.

I'd keep the iron head. It keeps more heat in the combustion chamber instead of the aluminum sucking the heat away. Plus there more durable.
And most V8 owners, the good ones anyway use iron heads not aluminum.
An iron head and a aluminum head with the same spec, the iron head will make better power. And the extra HP will overcome the weight difference.

maybe...but they aren't identical. the hesco is supposedly much improved -- even more than the HO heads.

how much wieght difference are we talkin anyway? how much does a normal head weigh?

read somewhere the stock bare head (no valves or anything is about 60-65 pounds)

The aluminum head is 30lbs less than stock according to hesco.
