help with odd oil pressure problem

I drive the XJ mostly in summertime and after that it sits parked outside over the winter. I drive to work and back again so its about 120km every day.
So in total its maybe 6-7000km before i do an oilchange in it
I use regular oil in it not synthetic.

I bought the filter from ebay.uk so i got 2 for the price of 1 wixfilter.
Here 1 wix costs around $15.
But i look on ebay for them cheaper or if i dont find them there i just buy them 12 at a time from an autoparts store.
I usually gets a good discounts if i do that.

I haven't heard anything negative about k&n oil fillters, except the price. It is not a Fram, that is for sure. I might try a Wix to see if that changes anything, but your deal on k&N seems very hard to beat, but I guess that was a one time deal on ebay.

What weight oil you using over there, 10-30?

Youtube has many great specific and generic videos that are great for newbies and first timers. Great time saver for pros working on a new to them vehicle too.

Very true.
I work in a shop that does Toyota, Honda, Volvo, Kia, Lexus, Scion, even the occasional Jeep.
We run into new problems on a weekly basis.
Youtube & Google have saved our asses more than once...

I have been using nothing buy K&N for 7 years now, and I never have any problems with them.

I am here to spread hate and discontent. I have 3 4.0's of varying mileage.

My YJ has 185,000 miles running a K&N air and oil filter since about 50,000 miles with no issues.

My 1994 XJ and 2004 WJ have been running FRAM oil filters for years with no issues. The XJ has 186,000 miles on it. Did replace the oil pump recently, but filters other than the FRAM showed no improvement over the FRAM oil filters.

I do not hesitate to use FRAM oil filters, have for years with no issues.

For s+g I went to Champion Labs new Fram Filtration website. They have a cut away filter and proudly proclaim:

"Thermally bonded non-metalic endcaps" (Cardboard)

"Nylon Core" (flexible beats steel)

"patent pending combination relief valve and anti-drain back valve"

Wait till some of those technologically advanced features filter into Royal Purple and K&N.:wow:

My original problem was my gauge was always pegged at 80, Used my manual gauge from HF today for the first time. 96 XJ, 200K plus on the clock. 4.0 w/AWG. I put Rotella 15/40 in it with a NAPA GOLD 1515 filter in it 4 weeks ago when I got it Cold I idle at 55 and rev up to 75. Hot I idle at 45 but still rev up to 75. Is this too high?

Also, when I pulled the sender out I gave it and the connecter a thorough cleaning with some electrical cleaner. Then I coated the connecter with electric grease and reinstalled. Now it mirrors my manual gauge within 5 pounds

Just to add, I had the same issue at start up with my recently purchased XJ. Last night I replaced the STP filter with a NAPA Gold filter and so far oil pressure shoots right up after a second or so.
Well, it turns out my issue was not with the oil filter alone. After I replaced the filter and drove it for awhile I was still getting low pressure readings. The previous owner had replaced the sensor and still had the same problem. I bought a cheap mechanical gauge and the pressure was perfect. Not wanting to mess with trying to mount the gauge for the moment I went to put back in the electric sensor only to realize I "unplugged" the round part and not the square part of the plug. It was toast. I bought a new sensor, put it in and for the last two days it's been working better than ever.
