help with odd oil pressure problem

A number of members do--some have even gone to a dual remote setup.

I'm having the opposite happen to me. When I start up, the needle settles around 60 and underload it jumps to 80 then settles back down to 60. No I haven't checked it with a mechanical guage, I changed the oil last week and put a Purolator on it with some Rotella T 15-40, thinking it would help with the summer heat. Im in SW Florida and its 90plus with 100% humidity everyday. This is my first oil change as I've only had it for a week. 96 Cherokee Country 4.0, AW4, 231. Is this bad?

Well, without using a mechanical gauge to verify--the "right" thing to do, allways--I would hazard a guess (never ASS-U-ME) that your sending unit is just reading high. PEACE OF MIND comes with a mechanical gauge reading. Rent one from a parts store or buy an el-cheapo one that mounts under the dash, use it to test, and then throw it in your toolbox.

I believe you can rent or borrow one from Autozone. If you want to buy a mechanical gauge, Harbor Freight sells them for about $25.

You unscrew your oil pressure sending unit, by the filter, and screw in the
mechanical gauge. Nothing electrical. Then start the Jeep and read the
gauge. Shut down, remove and re-install you sending unit. Not too hard:clap:

Make sure you thread the guage into the block securely or it could get messy with oil leaks. But yeah, its that simple.

Youtube has many great specific and generic videos that are great for newbies and first timers. Great time saver for pros working on a new to them vehicle too.

I'm not above spending money on my vehicles hell I have 6t of oil that cost over $13 a pop that was for my M3. But we're talking about a jeep with nearly 200,000 miles. There is probably as much oil blowing by the rings as flowing through the filter so when the store I happened to be shopping in didn't have any of the brands listed I went with what they had.

200,000 miles huh? It's just starting to get broken in. These engines will regularly see 400,000+ miles. You do know the 4.0 is one of the most durable long lasting engines ever made, right? Well, these and the Slant Six. Spend the extra dollar and get a good filter for it.

True story^^ right there.

Just to add, I had the same issue at start up with my recently purchased XJ. Last night I replaced the STP filter with a NAPA Gold filter and so far oil pressure shoots right up after a second or so.

I have almost the same problem with mine but it only takes 3sec for it to build up oilpressure. I dont think its a clogged pickup because i always change the oil at 10000km´s or after a year wichever comes first. (usually a year)

But the last time i did an oilchange i used a k&n oilfilter could that be the problem?
Because i always thought there oilfilter´s would be up around at the top like wix is.
Or are their oilfilter as usesless as their airfilters is?

They are over priced, big time. Because I also vote with my $, I won't contribute to a company that fraudulently hypes their worthless air filters.

How severe is your one year Oil Change Interval? Jeep garaged? Miles of commute? Climate? Are you running synthetic oil?

I would think a proven, quality filter such as Napa Gold/Wix would have a better ROI for you than the K&N. What is the price of a K&N in Sweden? Maybe I can ship you a Wix:)
