Hello,
I just got my first XJ, LOVE IT, I'm already starting to trick it out. I'm going to put a 3 inch lift and 30's for tires, how does that stance sound for some of the trails here in colorado? I personally don't want to get into anything too extreme.
I'm thinking it should be pretty good? Any suggestion, I'm a student, with little to no money so suggestions should be reasonable.

Thanks,
Matt

Personally I would go with 31's. Check around here. There is always someone with tires that is going from 31's to larger.

Welcome! Where in CO are you? It would be helpful to put that in the "location" in your profile so people can tell you about trails near your area, specifically. If you want even more specific help finding trails or local parts for sale, check out colorado4x4.org. That's a great site with some great people. I bought my rims from there, and hopefully I can find some tires too.

I'm also a student and broke, so I feel yah, but I do what I can. Most my money goes into saving for or spending on my Jeep either in gas or parts, lol. I would also suggest 31's if you're going with 3". I was thinking 30's are more appropriate with a 2-2.5" lift, which is what I'm looking into. But then again I always say, don't let people push you into going bigger, higher, longer (or any other demension) than what you want. You should post some pics of her in the pics section!

See yah around ~.^

X2

with that lift 31s will stuff flex and look just right. Tell you get to 32s you won't really notice a dip in fuel usage.

Thanks alot for all the advice! I'm putting 30's on them because I got them for free BFG TA's with %80 on them so I think I'll stick with them for now. I'll put some pictures on after its nice and cool, then I'll put before and after shots on!

Ask in the Colorado Chapter or Colorado specific sites like colorado4x4.org. Man, I think I've plugged that site 3 times today...

Thats one of those deals you can't refuse. Well if you ever want to run bigger just put the up on the forsale section and see what you can get out of them. Might have to buy 1 tire if you sale the other 4. Just an Idea.

30" tires and 3" lift works just fine. If you use stock wheels you will have to shim the steering stops to keep the tires from hitting the control arms. If you are going to wheel you need rocker protection, tow points, and disconnects. 3" and 30's will rub when disconnected, but not enough to worry about it.

You don't neccessarily need disco's or rockers... but I agree with the tow points. You WILL be getting stuck and it is a true pain in the ass trying to find a point on the uni-body that will get you out of a bind.

Taking off the sway bars is easy enough. Just take a socket to the end of the sway bar and off it goes. Or just take them off if you can't stand the "trouble" of putting them back on. Rocker wise, just know your limits. Don't try to climb over walls that are up to your bumpers. Watch the terrain you're wheeling on and make sure that when you flex over a bump it doesn't want to send you into a wall or boulder... happens too often.

Basically, be safe and take your time.

DO you need disconects Nope are they nicer than unbolting the front end all the time 100% better than unbolting them everytime thats for sure. I did that once and thought that was not the way I wanted to end each trail ride under the jeep doing that. That and the bolts and threads I didn't want stripping out over time. A stock jeep or one with a few inches of lift and disconnects up front and no swaybar in the back is like night and day for flex.

True it is a lot better flex. Mine only has a 3'' lift and 31's right now, but I took OFF my sway bars and can still drive how I want on the roads.

If you want to tow something definitely keep on the sway bars. I don't see the point in them around town (at least where I live.)

So for me, why even get out of the Jeep after a trail ride to touch the sway bars instead of just taking them off? ;)

I have JKS onthe fronts just for when I tow but the back is long gone. all it will do after 3 inch lift or so is suck the axle to the body. It drives and feels better with out the rear on. Heck the upcountry package from JEEP doesn't even come with a rear SB. just ditch it. I run 4.5 re and 32s the flex is great and I don't drive fast and crazy for the most part. I have the front sway bar but it hasn't been connected in over a year. nice set of thick electical rated zip ties have done the job just fine. It's just getting used to it and what you feel comfortable with. Mine is still my DD rig at this point.

Off topic but I have a set of JKS Quick disco's for sale if you are interested. I live on Fort Carson. 50.00 and they are yours. I run 5 ins of lift w33's and no rear sway bar and cruise down 25 at 65-75 without any probs. Let me know. My # is 229-9510. Oh, and welcome to the XJ world.
