Helicoil motor mounts??

Hi all.

About a month ago I bought a 96 country with about 121,xxx on the clock. Over the past month I have been fixing some little things and upgrading some bigger things i.e. track bar, tie rod end steering stabilizer etc. Last week I was driving home from a meeting and hit a pot hole (gotta love Detroit roads) and the bolts holding the passenger side motor mount in the block broke and the motor cocked to the right. I took the jeep to a local shop that does a lot work for me and they drilled out the old bolts and re tapped the holes and put studs in. About 20 minutes after I picked it up after the repairs I was driving home and hit a bump and the studs pulled out of the block. :bawl:

Now they want to helicoil the block and I am not sure if the helicoils will be able to handle the load? Has anyone been through this before and if so what did you do? Will a helicoil take the tourque of the motor? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

You might want to search for "welded motor mounts" or something like that as there has been a thread about this a while back. I don't recall what the final solution was but I remember that the discussion got pretty involved with the different options available.

Properly installed Helicoils are as strong as the original threads, the key word is 'properly installed'. Make sure to use the matching drill with the Helicoil.
