Heat from defrost??

I have recently noticed my defrost vents blowing out hot air. The vent controls are turned off but air still flows out the defrost vents. Any ideas on how to stop the air flow?? I also have A/C but that doesnt work either. During the winter I barely get any heat...Idk im lost on this.

any help or suggestions would be helpful. thanks Ryan

I had this problem over the winter thought something was wrong ended up being the connection on the passenger side under the dash plug in to the heater box wasn't plugged all the way in. I had no heat coming throug the dash only through the defrost and had only one speed . I was at Troys house picking up something and told him next thing I knew he mentioned it to me and plugged it in and it worked. Don't know if this will help, but good luck.

Had this problem with my 96. I think the system defaults to blowing the air out of the defrost vents when there is some kind of vacuum leak. Start looking.

Usually, it is a vacuum leak to the HVAC supply that causes the shift. Defrost is the setting that requires no vacuum to get to and again, usually when there is a leak, the symptom is defrost only or very slow to shift off of defrost.

If you need help with vacuum gauges to sort it out, drop a line. Will be glad to help.

Most common place to fail is where the line goes under the battery, or at the vacuum reservoir behind the front bumper.

I'd glady accept the help I have no clue where to start. It blows air even when the switches are set to off. How about this coming wednesday or thursday im off both days???
Thanks ryan

Well, let us look at that proposal. I am Retired so I have all day, every day, to help someone. Sure. Drop me a PM and I'll send my phone number and address to you! I have the vacuum gauge so do not worry about that.

I am always up to help NAXJA Members and Users as long as the help fits within my physical limitations as I am disabled.

And NOT just my mind, thank you all very much! Sheesh, what a crowd... Youse guys anyways.
