Heat coming up through center console.

I swapped a 97+ console in my XJ a couple years back, and when I did it I blocked off the vent going underneath the console; I also trimmed the console to use the stock 96 and down ebrake.

I get alot of heat coming out through the ebrake hole in the console; I think its coming up from underneath the Jeep.

Anyone else ever have this issue? I want to throw some insulation in there, but not sure what to go with, as I still want to be able to use the ebrake.

On my 94 with a 5spd, there is a second rubber boot around the shifter, buried under the console. That got torn and it took me a while to figure out that was where the hot air was coming from, heated up the console quite a bit.

I just put a metal patch over it after i ripped out my E-brake for my disc brake conversion. Sorry that doesn't help knowing you want to keep your's. I would suggest some kind of insulation and taking a shift boot from your local JY and sticking one down in there.

Mine does the same thing but bad.
Mine is a 5 spd that originally didn't have a console but they put one in. All the heat is being blown in threw the shift hole on the floor so I'm thinking of fabricating like a little insulated box to cover it or something because its pretty miserable its like driving with the heat on full blast to your feet and its pretty warm already here in new mexico

Went to the dealer, not available.

Per searching here and everywhere, the TJ uses one thats pretty much the same; as a matter of fact Quadratrac sells a bezel for the lower boot that lists both the XJ and TJ as applications.

I have a TJ lower boot coming in to the dealer tomorrow, will let you all know how it goes.

I fixed it and it cost me $3.00 and took 2 minutes.
I got air-conditioning insulation seal from Walmart cut it up to fit all under my center console and went took It for a test run it was actually colder under by ebrake then in other places so far it works but I still need to really test to be.positive it works but so far so good...

I have the same prob with my 5spd. After the jeep gets hot, it bakes like crazy from that area. I have been considering making a heat shield under that area, which is right above where the driveshaft meets the T-case. Its really bad in the summer on long trips, so if I ever get around to making one I will post pics.

Its been several days now and honestly that 3 dollars fix is working really well no hot air blowing threw the the console and the console isn't blistering hot to the touch although its a little warm but I don't even notice it. I can comfortably drive it on the freeway with the AC off and driver window open in 90°+ weather.

I did your $3 fix in conjunction with replacing the shift boot

My console is ice cold now.

Na I didn't replace the shift boot. Just lifted the console lined the shift hole and any spots I could with the AC insulation and put the console back. I'm sure its not as affective as factory but it keeps the heat out very Well and I'm statisfied

I have the 5spd and the same issue because the lower boot has been ripped. I posted in the OEM section a while back about asking to replace the boot. Have any of you guys replaced the boot? If so did you just slide the boot over the stick or remove the stick? The only reason why I ask is because of the bulge at the bottom of the stick

I did.

Yes, you have to remove the stick from the trans, then separate it at the bulge.
