Headlight Wiring Help Needed - Diagram Inside

Alright, so one of the things I still need to do on the buggy is wire up switches for headlights (low/high beam).

I would prefer to have it on one switch (DPDT) that way one way is low, one way is high, and center (neutral) is off. If needed two switches (SPST) could be used.

So here is the FSM diagram below:

SO we have:

- CAV 4, 7 and 8 are Fused B(+) and therefore power
- CAV 2 and 9 are headlamp switch output. One each for L/R, or one each for Low/High?
- CAV 1, 3, 5, and 6 appear to be unneeded.

So Any input as to how one would go about hooking up the headlights?

I'm off to do some meandering through the FSM to try and figure stuff out.

I don't have the FSM, but I would strongly suspect that the two outputs are for low and high. I think that a SPDT ON-OFF-ON switch would work just fine. Considering stock headlights are fed directly from that switch, you could just build a whole new harness with the same switch and 2 relays. Then it would be the same as the harnesses that you can buy.

Hmmm...SPDT...yup not going F&R like I am the tail lights.

My plan was to cut the wires coming into/out of the headlamp switch shown, and wire them to a switch/switches. So essentially as far as I know I wouldn't need the relays, since nothing would essentially "change" other than what they're wired up to.

I'm trying to use the stock harness on this one, since it's plug and play with the headlight harness, who's plug is just sitting up front ready to plug the lights in.

Why not two SPST switches. That way you could have the hi and low beam on at the same time.

Here's a schematic I drew when I was putting normal 5 pin relays into the Big Offroad headlight harness to replace the crappy four pin relays. H-high, L-low, the headlight connectors are as one looks at them. Don't know if it will help, obviously an spdt switch could go where the harness plugs in.

Thanks Fred...but I have no idea what that drawing is essentially doing

What I'm more hoping for is:

"Connect CAV 4 & 9 on one end of the switch, CAV 8 & 2 on the other" :D

Worth a shot. Do a continuity test between the headlight socket and Cav 2 and 9(what the f.... is a cav. :) I'd start with the the top connector in the socket, as it is the low beam connector.

I think I might have been looking at the wrong connector.

I think I might have made this way more complicated than I thought...might be able to just use the headlamp beam select switch wires.

Going to check tomorrow after work and I shall report back :D

youve made this complicated
the high low switch isnt in the headlight switch but rather the multifunction switch
if you ran one feed from the dual switch you want to run to both low beam relays and the other to both high beam relays youd be in business
center pole to power obviously

Yes I know, but that would be too easy :D (though it might end up being the route I take and just add in some relays.

Since I already have everything still there and not cut out yet (C106 connector, headlamp switch, headlamp beam select switch etc.) was trying to use it. Though I guess I could just get rid of C106, and both the switches if I want. Then I could just connect the parking lights somehow to the low beam.

Well, got the headlights figured out...much simpler when just going straight to the headlamp beam select switch below:

The B(+) (power) wasn't hot...so I just bypassed it and took a hot wire and plugged it into the low and high beam ports...lights came right on. So I'll use these wires to hook up the lights to two SPST switches.

Now...for the blinkers.

Sam (zluster) and I figured this out before and I wrote it down on printed papers, and now can't find them :(

Blinker connector:

If I take a hot wire and plug into ports 1, 3, 9 or 10 the turn signals light up (but don't blink obviously).

What I'm trying to remember/figure out is how to get the blinker (combination flasher) to work with it.
