Headlight Got Stoned

Ok so I walk pat the front of the XJ this evening and some thing looks odd with my passenger side Cibie headlight. On closer inspection the light has caught a rock, and has a nice crack running from the outside edge almost all the way across the lens. I had some idiot go past me yesterday hauling gravel in an open trailer. I heard a couple of rocks hit but did not see anything at the time.

Anyone know where I can get a decent set of stone guards for the stock headlights on an XJ?

Yes they are the nice E-code housings that Cibie has produced for some time now.

The stone guards I've passed in the junkyards looked pretty generic. They were based on the headlight shape, not the vehicle they were attached to. The mounting brackets used the same screws that held the stainless retaining ring to the bucket.

I haven't seen a set on a vehicle here in years. Used or new I want a set to avoid this in the future. If anyone has some let me know.

I always used to buy the cheapy ones at checker... don't know if they still carry them as its been years since I had a set...

I'll have to look at Checker. We don't have one locally but like everyone else they are probably on line. Need to check JC Whitney as well. If I find a source I will post it...might be others that want them as well.

I always dug the mesh grills people always ran on the sealed beams back in the day, although I've heard they tend to accumulate snow. With yours being H4 housings there might not be enough heat to melt it off.

What you can do is get the clear headlight film protectors. They work basically like a clear bra for your car. They're actually required for Auto-X.

Thanks, never really considered these.....any suggestions for a source.

Go to any place that does custom clear bra installation. They could probably sell you - or hell - give you some 3M clear scrap and you could trace a headlight, then cut it out and stick it on.

Thanks....another great idea. The town I am in is fairly small, but I get up to Billings MT every now and then. There is probably someone there that would have some of the clear material.
