Anyone know of a replacement for it?....say a 3 position rocker style with a seperate dash dimmer wheel?

Has anyone replaced that switch with anything other than another OEM push-pull knob?

Thanks...

Push-Pull is the bomb! :D

Anything would work. Find a good electronics store in your area (and I don't mean Radio Suck) and look at some to decide what you want. Just make sure it will handle the current.

I love push pull. I also think its funny when my friends get in and try to find where the light switch is. Even after telling my one friend a bunch of times, she still doesn't quite know where it is.

I like the push pull. Its so simple.

I love the fact that the dimmer turns backwards - counter clockwise turns the dash brighter, clockwise goes dimmer. Completely counter-intuitive :) .

Seriously, Radio Sack should have everything you need. Find a rotary switch you like - maybe out of another car - and wire it up. I know Volvo 850s and S60/V70s have the sort of switch you're looking for. B5.5 & A4-chassis VWs have a similar switch as well.

Reminds me of my dads 1985 Crown Victoria... SOOO UNIQUE!
for your option, the Chrysler Intrepid switch could work.

Hell, the Ford Mustang used push/pull up until the 05 redesign. If it ain't broke...

If you want something a bit different, try the switch out of a mid-80s' GM like a Buick Regal, or the junky Olds Cutlass. ( FWD chassis) You are looking for the switch style that has 1) a rotory style dimmer, looks like a cookie on its' edge and runs vertically 2) the marker lights are on a rocker style switch right next to the headlights, which have the same rocker style switch. The whole panel is big enough to fill the XJ switch place, but not too big to make the mounting a pain.

P.S> maybe you can do a ZJ lightswitch swap upgrade and make a sweet write-up for all the people who want a different kind of switch.

I seem to remember that TJs had a multifunction stalk combining lights and wipers into one unit. Might make for an interesting conversion. I personally like the push-pull, but it'd be nice to be able to regain the space it currently takes up to mount other switches in.

What about just wiring in a standard rocker? Personally, I never adjust the dimmer or use only my parking lights, so all you'd need are two rockers (lights on/off, interior on/off). It shouldn't be too hard, but I could be mistaken. Wiring might be a pain depending on how it's tied in with the dimmer...

Anyone care to chime in with their rationale behind why he shouldn't change it out?

Yeah, it's small potatoes as these things go - but BFD. Guy wants it to work differently to stock, so why care? It's his Jeep, he can do with it as he pleases. At least he's not asking how to graft KJ front suspension onto it.
