Besides, what makes anybody think that the General gives a damn about iconic badging? Grand Am, Grand Prix, Century, Le Sabre ... they're gone or on the way out. Oldsmobile? pfft. Then look at what they did to the cool ones: Monte Carlo, Impala, GTO. Good grief, those either became junk or looked like used bath soap (Taurus) or both.
They wouldn't have called it a Chevy Ram, either. They could have just built the better truck and put Silverado on it while leaving the GMC badges on the fruffy stuff. That's another iconic change: GMC used to be the "professional grade" truck.
