Has anyone drilled/tapped the AW4 tranny pan for a temp sensor?

at least with the Tee, if you dont like it, you can move it to the other line.

I put mine in the line from the cooler to trans. IMO I think its more important to know if the fluid is at an acceptable temp as it goes back to the trans, because I know it will be way to hot as it enters the cooler.

What's important is the temp of the fluid IN the transmission. You can only see that with the sensor in the OUT line to the cooler. We're looking for transmission temp, not cooler temp. If your trans is running too hot you won't see it in the return line.

I disagree, the fluid coming out will be almost always over ideal operating temp (while wheeling at least, only time I really pay attention to it), so you need to know if after the cooler its still safe to keep operating the trans.

With my setup I know I need to take it easy when the gauge starts climbing, if it's in the trans out line its pretty much always going to be reading in a dangerous range and really doesn't tell you much.

I'm just impressed with gojeeps pictures still being online 10 years later.
When I bought the 01 XJ ten years ago, GoJeep's was one of the first XJ websites I found and became my major reference before joining NAXJA.
I used many of his ideas and consider it to be the best private XJ website even if he doesn't add to it often anymore.
Marcus is busy building a hot-rod Willys pickup, another interesting build.
