Guys!! You need to own a AAA card!

I got real busted up in Asuza, and it ended up being like 63 miles away from home. That's close to 400.00 if you just call a tow truck, but I have the AAA Plus with the 100 mile tow, and so I got to save all that gas coming home!!

FOR SURE worth the extra bucks, please consider it if you don't have it already.

Yup! I upgraded fom Plus to Premier right ater that. With Plus, I would have still owed for over 40 miles (potentially a small fortune!)

Hopefully, I paid part of Remi back tonight! (I hung out with Kristopher until the flatbed arrived and handed over my AAA card. Not a 100 miler, but well beyond the use of his basic AAA. Thanks Remi! )

Yes, and I got home safe and sound thanks to you. The Jeep, on the other hand, is stuck at the top of San Fran in the snow where the tow truck driver refused to go any further. Hah! But I can limp it home from there no problem...tomorrow. In the daylight. :)

Thanks again Bill! Off to purchase my own Premier upgrade!

:D cool! Couldn't ask for a better way to pay it back. It goes kind of along the lines of pay it forward :)

I can't tell you how many AAA tow truck drivers and I are on a first name basis. My jeeps been on the flatbed four times (and always for something fucking stupid) and my ford truck maybe eight, for more serious things. I've been a member since 1992, a plus member for as long as I can recall and I was on the waiting list for premier when it launched in 2004.

How many of you knew AAA also included bail bond service? ;)

I have been a member for 25 years now. Its paid for itself many times over.
Tim D.

Member for 28 years. I upgraded a few years ago, from recommendations on here. It is a peace of mind when on the road when family on board. I also carry towing coverage on my auto insurance with $50 deductible. So I am covered. I have broke down a few times, over the many years, but always managed to get the XJ going on my own. Having a family now, I am not taking any chances. And yes, not having to deal with DMV alone is worth it!

Get the card and upgrade

I once had AAA tow me to the 100 mile limit then called my auto insurance to take me the last 65 miles home......AAA just dropped me off on the side of the road

You are right the best insurance you can have. Had a head gasket go and cracked the alu engine block did not know it at the time. It was a 100km to back to the house, then a few days later 50km to the repair shop. The towing cost me zero.

I wish I hadn't let my card expire when I was younger and stupid(er?)

Since I was originally added to my parents' account, my card said that I have been a member since I was about 10 years old! :sunshine:

Dose the card cover gas? just asking becasue I have road side with my ins. Couple of weeks ago I ran out of gas they sent a towtruck with some gas but I had to pay for the gas. I was a little irretated why do I spend 6 bucks a month and then have to pay for the one time I use the service in 3 years. At least they only charged me 3 bucks a gallon, if i had more cash I would have told the guy to top it off
From the AAA website:
Emergency Fuel Delivery

If your vehicle runs out of fuel, a limited supply will be delivered, if available, to enable you to reach the nearest service station. If you have AAA Premier or AAA Plus, you will receive a limited supply of fuel free of charge. Diesel fuel must be requested when you call for service and may not always be available. In some cases, your car may have to be towed if it runs out of fuel.

It just seems as though a AAA towing card should be as standard an issue as a full size spare.

The AAA in Las Vegas is a different club than the AAA in Southern California. California State Automobile Association versus Southern California Automobile Association. In fact, there are 69 indiviual clubs thoughout the country and each one has different rules and benefits. I would love to have AAA Premier but the CSAA doesn't offer it. Maximum free towing distance for me is 100 miles. Period.

And when you join, get the premium RV/Motorcycle package.

The RV upgrade is free to CSAA members. Nevertheless, the RV coverage is pretty much worthless. Medium duty towing companies charge per hour and the time clock starts when they leave their facility and end when they deliver your RV to a repair place within that magic five mile radius of their home base. If you want to be towed anywhere else, you continue to pay for the tow truck's time until he returns to his yard. Campanies capable of towing motorhomes charge $150+ per hour. The AAA only pays $200 for a motorhome tow. So, unless your motorhome breaks down in the city, down the block from Mike Thompson RV, you're like to be shelling out a few hundred dollars to get your RV to where you want it to go. Good Sam is a far better option for RVs as they will tow you to the nearest RV repair facility AND pay your motel bill while your RV is being repaired.

My card is gold and says member over 50 years. It is all based on my grandfathers original account.

Recently I got a flat in my RV and they took so long to show up that I told them to pound sand and I fixed it myself and left.

The DMV services are great. Im considering dumping them for all but basic coverage. I rarely need a tow because I have a trailer and several extra cars. The jeep is not a daily driver. For me AAA extra coverage doesnt make sense. Also my USAA auto insurance coverage has dirt cheap towing with it.

You had the gear to change the tire yourself and you still called AAA?
Are we getting that old now?
