Muddy carpet, I bet if you pulled up the carpet, you will have water on the floor. I would suggest getting a shop vac and getting to that carpet or you will have big holes in the floor in about two months. Ask me how I know.:D

This is the best no start thread I have ever read...it will be even better when the jeep does start...

The 96 is definitely a bastard child of the XJs...kind of. Its got good stuff, you just have to know what you are dealing with. It is OBDII and has the newer style three prong computer.

I can't believe this is a no start thread and no has said the cps must be bad...I dont know if it is or not, but that's what everyone used to say back in the day.

Isn't there a way in the FSM to test the sensors with a meter to see if they are working? The distributor is keyed I think so you could only get it 180 off or am I thinking of a different motor. Its been a while since I've had a 4.0 apart.

mac 'get your suit on and start wrenching' gyvr

He's got spark and fuel, so the CPS is working.

Look here Steve:

make sure that you stabbed the distributor right. My guess is severely retarded (haha) timing. Retarded timing=no start, but if yo uget it to start it will probably run, just badly. Advanced timing is backfiring through the intake/detonation/.

nate: thanks a bunch man. i think i got this

mac: thanks also.

nate thanks again for the info.

the bastard runs now. :yelclap:

its got amazing oil pressure. but its got a steady flow of coolant flowing out of the little overflow spout. i think its got air in the system. gonna let it cool off while i go to town for some lunch.

im actually really surprised that it runs. and runs GOOD.

thanks to everybody for helping me figure things out. you guys are the best. :smootch:

No sweat. Let me guess, one or two teeth retarded? it's easy to do, especially since it rotates when you engage the cam gear.

87" Steve's personal Jeep towtruck/consultant" Manche

it was one tooth retarded. ill keep the flex jokes to myself this time.

lol.

You've got the HO thermostat housing with the temp sender in the front? Jack it up or park it on a steep hill, front of the engine up;. Crack the temp sender in the thermostat housing, fill radiator until no more air escapes from the sender hole. Tighten the sender up nd continue to fill the rad. Should get 99% of the air out, let the coolant bottle get the rest out after a couple warm/cold cycles.

I'm glad to see you got it running, Steve. I was just about to add that you may want to go RED. I know my Jeep gets fixed easier because of it...:D

now this is the best no start thread ever...

mac 'tho red could trump that too' gyvr
