When i got mine, he only had three or four sets of this kind. Said he was taking a brake due to changing shop locations. That was.. 4 months ago. Best thing to do is call him and see if he can make some

I've been looking at making or finding a pair of armored tail light boxes ,
possibly with the bedside armor as well .

The distance is different on a 92" SWB MJ and there's no gas tank hole .
Anybody have any pics or ideas ?

just added some new protection to the Heep.

Made my dads old tj bumper work on the xj.

(my jeep looks like its lower because i had the front end on jsckstands)

yeah i ended up cutting part of the bumper so that it would sit fairly flush with the rear lower 1/4's and as far as mounting i cut the stock bumper mounts to about 2 inches tall and welded them to the flat plate mount that was already on the bumper, how it is right now it can support my weight pluss my brothers when we jump up and down on it.

I'll have some more detailed pic's up tomorrow morning.

right now its probably not the safest recovery point but once i get the time and a better welder (mine crapped out on me yesterday) i will do this for more strength.........

Yeah, definitely don't use it as a recovery point. Those welds only join metal that's butted up together, nothing overlapping or bolted through. That bumper is only as strong as the weld beads are. And from that last pic, the bead doesn't go all the way up. I assume that's where your welder crapped out?

Also, in that last pic you'll notice that there's some mild heat burning of the paint where the weld ran on the other side. From that pic, I'm gonna say that the weld on the otherside didn't get much penetration as it should have completely burned the paint and caused it to flake off and burn off completely at the weld site.

yeah i was using a 110v flux core welder, but i got both sides of each bracket as best as i could, if anything breaks i'll take it to my buddy john and have him TIG it up for me.

Hmmmm, yeah using a 110V welder for anything heavy and/or thick, you REALLY gotta know what you're doing. Generally using all the heat it'll give ya and going nice and slow. You really need to prep the surfaces and bevel the edges of the joints so the weld gets in deep.

But hey, enough with the "welding lesson".... You got your project done, just don't forget how it's welded and don't pull on it. :thumbup:

I have no idea, i use my old POS camera and never even bother to reset the date on it.

You might want to move your CB antenna off the rear hatch. The rear hatch of a 92 is fiberglass, metal hatch didn't start until '97. The antenna needs a good metallicm ground at the radiating element's base (where the coax's outer metal sheath attaches). I'll bet the SWR readings are real high. Mounting it on your bumper is prob the easiest and most convenient.

Apparently Troy, none of us in the CO chapter should be giving any welding lessons cause our welds suck :gee:
