well today i finally got around to meeting up with Cracker (avery) to buy his 3" procomp lift off him.... he said that he had a 1" drop shackle in the rear to lift it enough to level it out with the front.

so im gonna tackle this project probably next week and would like to do the shackles at the same time...

does anyone have an old set the would sell or know of a place that has super cheap ones? i could care less if their used....

thanks a bunch!

Keep in mind when you install the extended shackles they will angle your pinion up. You may also need to install angle shims to point the pinion back down if you are going to keep your stock driveshaft (ie. no SYE). The angle depends on the design of lift springs and if you have a tcase drop or not. You have to figure it out after you have installed the lift.

now that has me thinking more....

there are angle shims already on the leafs and cracker was running the drop shackles.... so now if i DONT put them on it will mess with my angle huh....

also since my xj is an 89 i was told i was pretty safe going 3" with no sye.... i sure hope thats right... otherwise i would have gone bigger and been done with it...

also, im getting some 31x10.5 tires can i put them on the stock rims?

My experience with 31" tires on stock 15x7 rims up front was that I hit the LCAs and JKS quick discos at full turns. You would either need to limit the steering wheel travel or add 1.25" spacers. I did the latter and it worked fine. There is a guy in Sunland or Sun Valley that makes spacers (aka adapters) pretty cheap. PM me if you want info. I have to dig it out. I have also seen them on ebay pretty cheap.

On the 89 you should be fine with no SYE. Just make sure your pinion angle on your diff. before and after the lift install is the same.

A bit of fender trimming could help fit the 31s very well.

and why do we care if it hits the lower control arms?

Well, depending on the edge/side/corner lugs you have on your tires, you may make a fart-y noise going around corners and we don't want to be near you when it happens!

Or go to the Jeep dealer and get a pair of Comanche MJ shackles. They should give you 0.5" lift over stock.
