Going to be parking the Jeep for 5 months...

Hey guys, I'm on a computer and get to slack for a few days. I arrived at the NOC Tuesday evening, and found out my resupply package for Fontana Dam won't be there until Monday, which is only 30 miles away (two days). So I have some time to kill before I do that mileage.Had a great breakfast yesterday, guided a raft down the Nantahala, and sat watching some play-boats while sipping a pint of a limited release brew from Stone. My buddy at WCU came and picked me up, and I am going to be chilling here for a few days, right now I'm planning on staying for the Tuck Cleanup on Saturday. Everything is so loud in town!

I'm AT challanged. What is NOC? Or where is it?

The Nantahala Outdoor Center, outside of Bryson City, NC.

Oh, damn I know that. Been to one of their other locations I think. Rafted the Chattanooga several times in the past.

Was over on the nantahala on wednesday fishing! I miss WCU...Enjoy the hike. A buddy of mine made it all the way up through VA a few years ago, his knew blew out on him though so he had to call it quits. He found a stray dog on the trail who has been with him ever since. All types of crazy stories (nothing bad). Again, ENJOY IT!

You weren't in the rafting section were you? I do remember passing a couple guys fishing spinning rods.

naw was fishing a whippystick(fly). I've been ran over twice by rafters while fishing holes in the middle of the river...Actually pretty convenient when you can't figure out how to get back to the bank:cheers:

Love that place!

Fly fishing IMHO is the only way to wet a line on the river! The Nantahala is tame enough that they allow self-guided rafts, so I'm not surprised you have had some incidents. I saw some pretty haphazard boats out there myself. There was a rumor yesterday of a guy that had a 150+ fish day on Tuesday.

Nick, do you have any idea when you will pass through the Roanoke Valley? I work Mon-Thur but could still meet up with you if the timing is right. If its a Saturday then my kids baseball games may get in the way. Keep my number and let me know.

There is a nice picnic area next to the trail on Catawba Mountain where the trail crosses VA SR 311

Anybody heard anything from Nick? I would have thought he would have passed through here by now. The pizza is getting cold and the beer is getting hot.

Yah especially with all the crazy weather we've had blowing through the past couple of weeks.

hey everyone, I'm back in Cary for awhile. Had a knee injury that wasn't getting better on the trail. Getting some work done, going fishing, and doing some more hiking later this summer.

This just made my day: A Lexus and Mercedes SUV "wheelin", they wave at me, and then the Mercedes smacks the rocker on the curb on the way out.

Ok, thanks! Glad he is OK other than the knee injury.

Yeah guys unfortunately I'm back home. The good news is the knee is not torn, and is healing up well. I won't be able to finish a thru-hike this year, but I have a busy and entertaining summer lined up now with lots of work and play, and I still plan to do some more hiking before heading back to school.

I'll put the pizza in the mic and the beer on ice. Dinner will be ready in a few:D

Glad you are ok and again, if you ever pass through my area you got my number.
