Glove Recommendations

I need a good work glove. I've got a pair of mechanics, but frankly I want something better.

They need to be oil resistant, and not soak it up. Or at least be so that oil wont soak through the gloves and onto your hands. They also need to be finger tight, such as the mechanics are, yet also provide some warmth for winter. Temps around 20 - 30 degrees is not uncommon. Lastly they need to be durable and take be able to take a beating.

I would be willing to spend up to $100 for the right pair.

Any body have any suggestions?

They're not all that tough, but rubber gloves will do almost all the things you want. Maybe rubber coated gloves will meet your demands. Or you could just suck it up and accept greasy hands.

I use Mechanix gloves for heavy stuff or hot items.. and industrial Nitrile gloves for lite duty use. No worries.

I use nitril disposable gloves for auto work. They keep the oil out and keep my hands clean when I don't rip them.

I am interested in what you find. I am done with the "Mechanics" gloves. Don't ever get brake fluid on them. They will stain you hands. I found myself using my wife foot stone, pumice thingy to rip the top layer of skin off.

I love mechanics gloves for welding and trail riding.

NEVER buy immitation Mechanix gloves. Synthetic leather is just that, synthetic. When they melt they melt to your skin.

I picked up a set of gloves from sears. They have like 5 different types, made for different uses. Mine are very tight, have nice padding, and have so far kept my hands fairly clean.

Seriously thoug, I've probably only used those down to about 50 outside (which is pretty damn cold in my book!). Usually my hands are sweating all the time with them on, so they kinda keep me warm

I don't have much against Mechanix gloves other than I like to be able to feel the object I'm working on.

BTW: Treeboy, winter is a thing I'll be some what learning soon. :shiver: Not big time winter but alot more than SoCal!

My son has a couple of pairs of neoprene, fishermans gloves. Keep your hands toasty down to about 20 F. Don´t really know what oils or fluids will mess them up, haven´t managed to mess them up yet. Always managed to clean and return them to his fishing box, without him noticing :shhh: I normally use a pair of thin, leather driving gloves. Picked them up cheap at Wal-Mart, coated them with Kiwi Mink oil, makes them water and oil resistant (oil mostly stays on the surface). Just wipe them off and apply some more Mink Oil. When they get too messed up, I toss them and put on another pair. The drivers gloves can be slipped inside a pair of XL linemans gloves I have for welding and sharp stuff, the two toether are plenty warm, for most temps..
The only fluid that really messes with my hands, is auto tranny fluid. Other than that, I don´t pay much attention to getting my hands oily or greasy.
Just as a side note, in the winter I have a heavy patio umbrella stand, with four rollers underneath, a five foot aluminum pole and a 150 watt flood light on top. Plenty of light and warm hands. One of my better junk pile constructions.

for colder weather i like the mechanix IMPACT gloves, they worked good last winter.. they have paddding that was good enough to keep me from getting numb fingers.. lately i have been wearing a pair of Moto-Fox MX gloves when i'm on the trail though.. small and non restrictive, and breathe well.. i generally wear them all day instead of trying to find them when i jump out of the truck and need to move rocks or trees or deal with winch cables and such.. just easier to wear them all day.. they wash up easily when they get muddy too.. i ALWAYS wear gloves now since i ripped off a fingernail last spring with bare hands..

I used them a while ago with my old job. Pretty tough, good dexterity. They held up ok to oild etc... and were machine washable if I remember correctly.

If memory serves, they were not water proof, but they did ok.
