Ive gotten tattoos for personal reasons to honor my beliefs, family history, cultural background, and what it is I do. I've also gotten tats from many different places because of my travels, all thanks to the military.
The fad that annoys me is people with money getting full sleaves done in single sessions. My sleave is an assortment of tats Ive gotten over the years and then shaded around to fill in the space.
Now now, you're being just as hypocritical.........
No one should stand in judgement over anyone's choice in tatooing - or even how/why they got their tats.
Some get that full sleeve in one session because of the overall artistic piece that it is....... or they bring in several ideas for tats that make up that entire sleeve - but they didn't/don't have the time to spread those tats out over time and simply choose to git-er-dun all at once.
Ink is ink. Get what you want, for your own reasons. Just don't cry about it later....... THAT'S what annoys people.
I've got my own designs/preferences for tats I'd love to have........ I'm just not able to get past the fact that because it's permanent - I gotta really trust the artist - and I'm just too picky/indecicive to just go with my gut, choose an artist and get it done........
When I was 18, I had the idea that I wanted to commorate my love of the Calvin & Hobbs cartoons and get Hobbs pouncing on Calvin on my arm..... Words can't express how happy I am that I couldn't muster up the courage to get THAT done.......

Now, later in life...... I find myself thinking that having a pic of my grandfather leaning up against the '46 Olds he gave me re-created on my arm would be a fitting and meaningful tribute tat - and possibly something that could be added to with a portrait of my pops when he inevitabily passes......
Another part of me thought just a couple simple arm bands - one of an off-road tire tread pattern combined with some Moab horizon landscape to represent my interest in 'wheeling, and the other arm, a flame pattern mixed with engine parts and wrenches to represent my hot rod interests........
But...... I'll most likely never take that leap........ but regardless of whatever I decide to do...... I won't be looking for anyone's input or approval except for my own......
Heh heh........ Maybe I'll just go pay a tatoo artist to draft up those tat ideas and then frame them on my wall...... I can simply say "Here's my tats...... whenever/if I decide to get 'em inked."
