ok looks like they are about $30 for 4 hours or something from the rental place.

You better double check on the 14" auger part of the rental. Most augers are 8" max and rarely over 48" long.
Check on companies that do footings for homes and businesses. They have a truck mounted auger that can do what you want if about 60 seconds. If you can find the guy, a case of good beer for him to stop by on his way to or from work might work out.
