Garmin Data Cards

What kind of format is it? The pic makes it look like it's some sort of a form factor. If so, then how big of a map can you store on a 512 mb card?

Remi Have you bought a GPSr? What model?

The 60csx (the reciever I own) uses a microSD card. Garmin breaks up their maps into segments. Each segment is a different size determined by the area covered and the amount of data in that segment(POI's, routing info, elevation info, etc.) I have a 2gB for mine I have loaded IIRC all the City Navigator and Topo segements for pretty much the US west of the Rockies. I'll double check that when I get home tonight.

When you are in Mapsource you can select a segment and see how large the file size is.

When you get set up with a reciever and software give me a call and I can run you through some of the basics.

Hmmm....

the 376 must take a different card.

I thought the 378 used the same card as the 376.

my error.

Rev

We may be speaking of a different thing I am looking a the 378 now and it does take a proprietary imaging thing... BlueChart g2 Data Cards. which my guess is that its a microSD with proprietary imaging on it. My 60csx and the other handhelds like vista and Colorado definitely just take microsd to load maps onto.

Remi did the Garmin come in yet?

Yes: had it in Big Bear and it worked out great :D Interestingly enough I needed the memory card to retrieve the route and waypoints out of the GPS.

So you can't directly dowlond from the GPSr to a computer?

You can but...... a memory card needs to be inserted in the GPS. If you ask me, it's a way that they insure memory card sales (they provide the software and cable with the GPS)

OUCH!

I just bought 2 gigs for my 60csx for 9.99 But just microSD same as my cell phone.

I wonder why the difference in memory types accross the garmin line. hmmmmmm

unfortunately You have to buy a card like this: http://www.electronicsleader.com/garmin-256mb-data-memory-card.htm

like mentioned before - its gramin design.. and garmin cherges for them like for gold. which is stupid in the era of pendrives at $16 for 4 GB

I see no explanation on garmin memory prices.. other than greed.

anyway I have 128mb in my 276c and it fits most of CA, NV and Utah....
