FYI.... Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area... Moving forward!!!

What pulled u out.
LOL... yeah I got pulled out by a Rubicon... not proud of it :looser:

what can NAXJA do to help out? we dont get much, if any, land use stuff to do like the guys out west have.
I tried this with the NAC BOD this year, but didn't get any support. I think when the trail cutting starts up again, we should be able to help with that effort.

they just clearcut a large glacier drop (rock garden) for the jeep jamboree thats going to be held there.
:bunny:

Cool, I didn't see that. Our trail guide told us about it though. It isn't quite the length and width of the one at RC, but sounds impressive as well. I saw numerous small rock gardens though in various places. The land is very similar to RC though, with numerous bowls/washes and old mine shafts peppered all over the place. They have a few remediation projects going on right now on old mine shafts. Basically, closing them down and replanting the land.

i'd def like to take a trip out there this summer. a few of my buddies have gotten out of jeeps but still have four wheelers and it would be awesome to ride along with them like we could at paragon. theres no onsite camping correct?

There's not going to be onsite camping. It'll be part of an ongoing local business growth project to engage the adjoining privately-owned properties for things like camping, RV sites etc. and those properties will have connecting trails into the park from what I understand.

Saves the park the trouble of having to provide infrastructure on-site, and also handles the issue of no alcohol being allowed on the park grounds (that was going to have to be applied to the camping areas as well).

I know some work has started on the camping side (private owners have gotten necessary permits/zoning and so on to establish those kinds of businesses) but I'm not sure how far along the physical part of it is.

One of the difficulties with AOAA is there just isn't much accommodations close. I can't wait until they have camping close-by, that will be great. It is a very cool place though, and totally worth the day trip and/or staying 30 minutes or more from the park.

cool. Would definitely be nice to check it out.

Nearest lodging right now (quick search) is a Country Inn in Frackville and campgrounds to the North, but both are ~30 minute drive

Danville has multiple offerings for hotels. If camping is your thing, Knoebels Grove and Lake Glory are two private campgrounds closer by near Elysburg. They get filled quickly due to their hugely popular amusement park (free entry & parking etc).

I believe there may be a couple of newly renovated "cabins" near AOAA with a private developer building a camp ground.

Whatever you do, don't stay at the Glosser Motor Inn... Location is convenient but the place is disgusting.
