Fun Day

I can only get the 48 grain moly's out that hot. 55 g's, I'm back at 3,880.

That's the nice thing about 22's, they burn a lot less powder.

I really want a 6PPC for those windy days, plus the accuracy.

My 22 dumps 55's into just under .6, if the winds not blowing. I think I could do a little better with a PPC.

So you were killing them for fun?

No, to feed the scavengers.

Scavengers need to eat too.......don't hate the carion eaters.

Sweet! That does sound like a fun day. I'm jealous of the suppressor. Here in WA we can legally own one, with the proper permits and signatures, but cannot legally fire a gun with a suppressor attached. Kind of a weird law, I guess you can just "collect" them.

I'm headed down to the Prineville area in Oregon this weekend to do a little rock chuck/sage rat shooting. Anybody here familiar with that area? I've got family down there but haven't shot there before; neither has my family.

I'll be taking my .22 Hornet for close range stuff (<150 yards) and the 6mm Rem. Ackley for the long range stuff. That one throws 55gr Blitzkings at 4200fps, and 70gr TNT's at 3850fps into (I'm not lying about this) sub-.300" groups at 100 yds. It weighs 13 pounds though so I don't pack it around much.

I've shot an Ackley before, very nice caliber, in the right gun.

This one has a 28" heavy barrel on a Mauser 98 action. It's pretty much intended for long range, but sure blows things apart from close range too. Just a little less case capacity than a 240 Weatherby; but it still uses quite a bit of powder compared to a .223 or even a .22-250.

Sorry, not trying to hijack this thread. Keep blowing up those varmints!

This is Lincoln's thread, and given how many threads he's hijacked with his nonsensical babble in the past, you are well within your rights to hijack to your heart's content

Now that was just uncalled for. What have I ever done to you. On second thought, don't answer that.

I see no hijacking. I like hearing about other peoples blow shit up toys.

I'm just started shooting again after 12 years. The friend above has been bugging me for the last few years. He likes the family rock chuck farm.

Andy look at the 25 WSSM. After playing with dad's gun this weekend I think there is some good potential in that and also the .243 WSSM. I'm starting to really catch the bug on those short fat cases. With only 10 rounds through it dad's is shooting a .6" group on factory ammo. That's with me shooting it and on a make shift bench in the desert (no bags) and I setup the best I could with a 10 mph to my back. With some load tuning I bet it will be well under .5".

I still haven't tuned the loads in mine but the day I broke it in I shot under 3/4" with the cheapest factory loads I could find. That was at a range but no bags or sling and a little bit of wind. My friends gun is the same as mine so I slapped a couple of his 180 grain load through to see what happend. They were a little tighter so I just used his recipe for the 150's and shot those this weekend. Checked the dope on a small rock and called it good. Maybe this weekend I can get out and see what it's shooting and maybe play with the charges.

I kind of fawked up the trigger though. He originally had it set at 2 lbs and an extremely crisp break. I haven't ever shot anything close to that so it made me a little nervous. He backed it off a bit and added a little creap in it. Now I wished I would have left it alone. Oh well, shoot it this year and then change it out. I'll probably add a muzzle break to it later this year too and get it target bedded.

He's really bugging me to change out the worn out barrel in the .243 and put a match grade 26" or 27" on it. I'm thinking real hard about that one.

What about a "Lincolin Fest"
Could we pair it with our 'Tard fest?
"kill two birds with one stone" so to say....

Hell, every time I go do something fun it's a tard fest. You would have to add the MW, Sierra, and Socal tards together to even equal one of me.

I never ran my Swift that hot! 55g Serria BT at about 3800 was enough.I did run the 6mm pretty hot with 85g HPs

I'm getting 4010 out of my .243 but I haven't seen any 55 gr 22-250 loads that high.

I'm pretty happy with the 150 gr ballistic tip running right at 3100. I do think I'm going to give the Hornady A-max match bullet a try. They run about 40% less cost, have a higher ballistic coefficient and still have the thin jacket.

Biggest drawback of the .30 cal. 66 grains of powder burning up on every shot. It sounds so nice.

Judging by how easy it was to drag you into doing stupid things with duct tape...

I'd have to agree. :D
